Running low on Varget and while I’m mostly switching to the Reloder 15 I have on hand, I’m debating another ball powder, Tac. I’ve used CFE223 (and still do) with 55gr .223 loads but I’ve found that pressures can be a little erratic and it hasn’t shown the best accuracy in comparison with extruded powders.

Would TAC fit this bill? Mainly for moderate to heavy .223 (55-77gr) and like 155-168gr .308?

It’s about $100 cheaper for the 8# online versus the 8# of Varget and its available which is a big deal.

Use cfe223 for plinking loads and it does awesome. I have a lot of it. From talks here I still need to move from 25g in 5.56 (under an inch in several rifles) to 26g to see if I can improve.

That said. I have a good bit of ramshot TAC and
it makes some stupid accurate .308 loads and the little bit I've dabbled with it in my 5.56 stuff it is looking better for "precision". Bulk loads generally under 1" with cfe223 and TAC is starting at 3/4" through the same barrels.

used it a couple of times with 50gr-69gr bullets it does pretty good in the bolts.
Mainly now it's 8208, 748. 5.56 / 223 BLC2, H332 and WC844
7.62 / 308 it's 8208, 4064 mainly .. rifles range from Bolts all configurations
M1A's all coniguration
FWIW: I ditched Vargot long ago for obvious reasons

For my accurate 223/556 loads, I use either 8208 (ranks up there with Varget in fairy dust category) or Accurate 2520. That 2520 has blow me away. Top velocities and stellar accuracy. Last I looked it was available at powder valley.

I load my 55gr FMJ/SPs to 26.5gr CFE223, 2.240” which is generally to the cannelure.

I’ve had pressure issues trying to run CFE with precision loads because it likes to be on the hotter end of the charge weights so outdoor temp can swing things with it.

Yeah TAC is awesome. It's my favorite 5.56 powder so far. It does exactly what you're sounding like you need it to.

I use TAC in many applications. It is the most accurate powder for .223 52 grain SMKs in my heavy barrel Remington 700. Extremely accurate in .308 with 155SMKs and 168 SMKs. I also use it in .303 British and 7.62X54R reloads.

I tried a load online I read about; it’s a compressed Reloder15 / 52gr SMK load. I might’ve done a write up here about it. Around 3000fps from a 16” barrel and over 3200 from a 24”, and silly accurate

But yeah I’d like a ball powder for my precision loads that’s available

2000MR works great but it’s frequently OOS.
