Hey all. My father in law wants to sell one of his rifles but I really don’t know much about it. Wondering if someone can tell me how much he should ask?

It’s a JM stamped Marlin 30-30. Not sure of the age. OK condition. Scope seems cheap so don’t need that to play into equation.

Thanks for any info!

6-7. Mint guns bring a lot these days. Looks like stock might have been refinished at some point?

Without checking the serial I’d guess that this is a mid 80s vintage. You can tell for certain by subtracting the first two digits of the serial from 2000. It has the cross bolt safety which was introduced in ‘83 so it’s at least that old. While not ideal that the rear swivel stud is drilled
through the Marlin ‘bullseye’ it’s not uncommon to see that. I’d say $550 to $650 range as these old rifles have been going up in value recently.

I think that’s a birch stock version, never had a bullseye.

I don’t know about current value, but in my head it’s $350-$400. Millions of them in average condition.

Was a time not long ago, a gun that had a safety, refinished stock and was a 3030 in caliber might fetch 350.

Can’t see it worth more than 450 now.

But hey, people have been doing a lot of crazy things here lately.
