Appraisal thread missing

I just became a "Life Member" but still don't see it.
Go to the forum menu. At the top is the member section. Click it. Then you’ll see "buy/sell/trade". click that and you’ll see it. I had to look for it myself, but it’s there.

It’s a section within a section...Members, then BST, then you’ll find Appraisals.
Like everything else here. An inside joke inside an inside joke.

I like it.

:p

Curious if there is there now a new rule posted somewhere about starting valuation input threads in the general handguns section?

I’m thinking about selling a Glock 24 competition, would like to get others thoughts and don’t see anything posted prohibiting my doing that but thought I’d ask to be sure.

Just to chime in. Even without some of the membership features, I found the cost of a Lifetime Membership to be WELL worth it!
Great forum, great folks, relaxed environment! It easily became a no brainer for me!

Me, no offense intended but I’m looking for a simple answer to my question from a member of the staff here, not a Jerry Lewis style pressure to give guilt trip. Yes, I have sold two items here but you don’t know my financial situation and frankly it’s none of your business. There are also other ways to contribute to a community beyond simple financial donations and I hope I’m also doing that. I likely will donate in my own time and place of choosing but don’t react well to being told where I should spend my money regardless of how good a cause is.

One of the reasons I joined here was the ”what’s this worth” sub forum and suddenly poof it’s gone and I have to search to find this thread to find out what happened. Maybe I missed an announcement somewhere but I couldn’t find one last night. Is there some list of the much vaunted “membership features” beyond the ribbon?

It's a discussion and it's not even your thread 🤷‍♂️

Frank sorry but I don’t understand your comment

There is a members only chat, members only BST, appraisals, giveaways from time to time. Also that ribbon typically makes long time members trust you more and are willing to help you or give you a deal. YMMV on that though. Just my experience. I'm sure others can chime in but it's been well worth the $20 imo.

People were abusing the appraisal section. It was turning into "little ebay" one person would give a low or "pre rona" value then 20 new members would try to snipe the item by pm'ing offers for an item that never actually got listed with a price. So, now that section is only for members who think the forum is worth supporting.

Thanks cmdeshon that makes sense.
There’s no rule against starting a thread in handguns, or off topic, simply looking for value of something. Yes we moved appraisals to members only cause you know the saying “one ruins it for all”.

Now, going to edit your open forum profanity out of the post that it didn’t get edited out of.

Thanks squanchy. I read that thread before (and again just now) and honestly your description of the benefits of donating are far better stated than what’s there.... it’s more a how to donate vs added benefits of donating.

the only post I see in that thread that starts to describe the positive beyond forum financial support is this

suggestion for the moderators and admins, might be useful to better spell that sort of stuff out. And apologies for my language, I was triggered by Jerry Lewis

@DaveInCLT they may want to keep some of it hidden so people are just not paying $20 to get access to appraisals to bomb them like how It was before. Most of this is because of the new wave of users from AL. Which most are fine but a handful ruin it for everyone unfortunately. An admin can comment on that though.

This is a hobby and a labor of love for most of these guys I imagine keeping up with appraisals before was a huge undertaking with the membership surge after AL went to pay to play. I'm on the outside looking in, and idk how they kept up with it for the few weeks they did lol.

I get it and understand. There are ways to identify and ban the bad actors; I’d be glad to help do that and offered some suggestions to mods privately that I hope was received.

sometimes for the sake of sanity you have to restrict things that take a ton of time to moderate otherwise.

Speaking only for myself, and harkening back to long before I became a moderator, I’ve contributed to this forum because I value and appreciate it. I never considered any particular “benefits” other than that CFF will continue to exist, grow and thrive. Not unlike stuffing some bills in the kettle during the holidays.

Obviously, YMMV.

@Jeppo I migrated from FB shutting everything down I became a supporting member after someone gave me a deal on a revolver and figured hey this is cool I'll donate $20. Then figured out there's much more here as I dove deeper.

Edit - I think it takes some people time to realize that... It took me some time to fully appreciate what y'all have here. And the lack of intervention from big money
