Back when you could get an Ak for $300 at a pawn shop, and most AR's started at $1000, an Ak was a good buy. I used to own a converted Saiga. For what it was, it was a dang good shooter. Would hold a 3.5 inch group easily, which isn't shabby for a rifle made with rivets and sheet metal. If Ak's were that cheap again, I'm sure I'd get another.
But these days, the tables are reversed. You can find decent AR's under $500, and Ak's seem to run between $600-1000. Why pay more for a gun with generally worse ergonomics, and less accuracy?
As long as AR's are cheaper than Ak,s I can't justify buying another one for myself.
