I’ve got a PWS 308/7.62

Should I go with a LPVO (1-6x or 1-8x), or a high power scope where I can dial in adjustments (looking at Arken’s 4-16x and 6-24x).

Most frequent use will be <200m, but would like to be able to stretch its legs 600+ every now and again.

I have several "AR10s". The highest power scope I have on my longer range, precision build, is a 3-18. When you think about what you'd really use it for, that seems like the best option. You can still hit relatively close or stretch it out to 1000. My heavy barrel 16" has a QD mounted 1-6 lpvo or a QD thermal. Then my lightweight pencil barrel 18" has a red dot with magnifier. I just built hard hitting but not highly accurate rounds for that rifle, it will never see past 200y. So three different builds all built for different purposes with different optics on each.

Point being, it's all in what you're going to use it for. I wouldn't really consider anything over a 3-16ish though. Those lower magnification ranges will probably be used a lot more than your max.

If you're treating it like a battle rifle, use an LPVO. If you're treating it like a long range gun for accuracy, go bigger. Mine weighs a ton and doesn't pretend to be a battle rifle, so it got a 6-24x with a 20MOA scope mount, but an 18x would also be appropriate.

I also prefer something in the 3-9 or 4-12x range for 308 especially an auto loading rifle. The SWFA straight 6x or 10x are fine choices too. I may be in the minority here, but variable zoom is overrated. A fixed mag optic has consistent eye relief and is wicked fast for ranging targets. My SWFA 10x42 scopes have no trouble at 600 yards. Beyond that I’d probably want better glass but cost would be 3-5x as much.

the arken scopes seem like a good choice but they are heavy.
