I have a scope in mind for an AR10 platform in .308. I have attached pictures of the boxes for the mount and scope. I’m thinking this is a good choice.
I’m a novice with little knowledge on scopes. What do you more experienced folks think?

Depends on what you are planning to do with the rifle. 6-24x is a bit overkill if you are planning to use it to hunt with, out to a couple hundred yards. 6x will make it hard to pick up a close target and at 24x the field of view is going to be very small. For hunting I prefer either 3-9x or 4-16x, since my eyes aren't what they used to be. If it is for punching long range targets it will be fine from a rest.

I have a Steiner 4-16 x 50mm on my AR10.

I put this Leupold on a 6.5 Creedmor. Glass is excellent. Would be a solid choice if you are mainly hunting or shooting targets. If you are going more ‘tactical’ or defense probably not the right choice.

What are YOU doing with the rifle? <--- that's the #1 question.

I made the mistake of going with too much magnification when I first started doing precision shooting. It's an easy trap to fall into.

My .308 now wears a 1.5-8x and does duty for deer/hogs and target shooting out to 700 yards.

As others have said, what is the intended use? My 20" AR 308 has a 3.6-18 Leupold Mark 5 HD. My 16" has either an Atn Thor 4 thermal or Vortex viper pst gen2 1-6 lpvo. My 24" has a vortex diamondback something like 5-25. I rarely use it (because it's so f*ing heavy) so not even sure what it is, but it's a low end long range scope, though the Leupold is far better.

The Leupold 1.25-4×24 Firedot Patrol has been working for me for about six years.

The variant I have is no longer in production though...

i’m not sure i’d even put a 4-16 on it. my 358win (gas gun) has one and honestly, i’m going to swap it out for a LPVO to save some weight here soon.

i have a scope similar to the sig scope on my precision rig and it’s borderline too much scope even for it. i couldn’t see having that big of a scope on a gas gun and go walking through the woods for any distance.

I don't have personal experience with that particular sig optic but I agree with some of the others with the magnification being on the higher side depending on what you're doing.

I am building my ar10 and picked up a 3.6-18 Leupold Mark 5 HD but after using a buddies nightforce NX8 2.5-20 I may pick it up instead to allow an even lower magnification.

I’m interested in long range precision shooting at paper targets. My eyes ain’t what they used to be. I would like to be able to see what I’m aiming at 1000 meters. I know that’s stretching my rifles capability at this point in its life, but it can be tuned a little I’m sure.
Worse case I could put it on a different rifle.

Stretching its abilities is dependent on what you built. If you've got a 16" pencil barrel, then you really won't be doing much past 600. If you've got a high quality 20"+ and you're using a high BC bullet, then 1000y is doable. Historically, 308 goes subsonic at around 800y, which is where the accuracy is gone. With newer/better bullets, that isn't the case if you're using those rounds. I'm currently working up a load with the ELDM 168gr Hornady bullet. With a BC1 of .529, it should be very capable of 1000y. I wouldn't even consider it if I were using the old standard of 168gr HPBT bullets from Sierra or Hornady.

SO, stating you have the barrel and the ammo for it, how much are you looking to spend? I think a great "mid tier" option would be the Vortex Viper PST GenII 5-25. Here's a link to the demo from europtic: https://www.eurooptic.com/Vortex-Vi...C-MRAD-Riflescope-PST-5259-Showroom-Demo.aspx If you're willing to spend 2000+ then you have lots of great options.

If it's stationary targets at that distance then the scope you have is fine, just take the extra time to make sure the scope is mounted dead on plumb and level. Have fun with it!!

An SWFA SS will be extremely capable out to 800+ yards. I run these on the LR-308 and am very happy with their performance. If glass quality and tracking are good, one shouldn’t need much more than 12x magnification on a 308. Well at least that’s my experience.

these do not come w a zero stop feature but with either proprietary or cheap metal shims a zero stop can easily be incorporated.

If you're just wanting to punch paper out to 1k then your Sig is fine. I'm not familar w/ that line as I've never owned a Sig scope. I have a couple Leopolds and Vortex scopes that can relate. I've have/had a couple in the PST line and they are good for punching paper. I now have a Razor which is more durable and Japanese Glass. Scopes are you get what you pay for... doesn't mean that a lesser scope won't hold up to range use but you know what I mean... it's only $$
