I received a new RX from the eye DR, and received my glasses 2 weeks ago. All my red dot are now out of round, with my old RX the dots were perfectly round. The dots on my handguns are not as bad, they are Deltapro's. Is this normal or should I go back to eye DR?

Unfortunately your now in the 'Stig club, and that means finding out which red dots work with your eyes.

The smaller the dot, typically the more clear it is for myself.

I use an RM09 RMR for example, its one moa dot SHOULD be too small for a pistol, but with my astigmatism, it looks normal. Works well for me. If you hand me a 6moa one, its all blur...

The Aimpoint PRO, and several of the "old" 30mm models work well, as does the Sig Romeo 5. Certain brands have more compatible optics, try as many as possible before buying if you can.

Also, try using the rear aperture sight on say, an AR while looking at the dot through it. The dot will typically become much clearer.

Prism sights are also nice, because they avoid the issues of red dots and astigmatism.

I also find a rear bias mount can help.... depends on the sight.

I have an astigmatism and very different prescriptions in both eyes.

I had my optometrist give me a solid prescription for distance vision and now need cheaters to read in low light. The benefit is it’s impossible for me to focus on a dot at arm’s length, so all my dots are nice and sharp. Forced target focus fixed the “bloom” and “oblong dot” problems I used to have.

Holosun and Sig dots all look great. Tiny, bright, smooth. Vortex and Burris are still sort of “undefined.” Lots of optical wash from their emitters.

Interesting. I received a pair of solid prescription glasses a couple of weeks ago by mistake. Going to give them a try, but unfortunately, I need readers all the time.

C-More red dots are the crispiest for me and my astigmatism. The Romeo Max Michel thing, whatever it is called, is expensive as crap but is also pretty nice.

But the best is going to be a prism sight hands down. If it is viable for your platform that's what I would go with. I can't always do that with every rifle or pistol for obvious reasons, but some of my optics are about to migrate to prism sights for this very reason.

Just wish they made a prism scope that was lightweight, 1X, and only has a simple dot instead of concentric circles or some sort of horseshoe.

I will agree about C-More red dots. I do not know how they are manufactured, but they do have an excellent product for certain applications.

No problem before, now a new set of glasses? Doctor screwed up or lenses maker did. Get it fixed.

Yes, if I put on my old glasses, the dot's are perfect, with the new glasses they are not. I will call and talk with eye DR. Other than the problem with the dot's my eye glasses are better, I can see better with them.

Honestly,
the prism thing is the way to go if you can.
I use Vortex Spitfire AR.
It does red or green, circle with a dot in the center, but not fuzzy like a holographic sight, very crisp.
Also, if the power runs out/dead battery/emp/ it still works, just in black.

This works for me. It's cheap and easy to try. From an old article on "muzzleblast"

"Just use a small piece of black plastic electrician's tape with a 1/16 inch hole punched in it (the smallest size punch of a common leather punch). Pieces of tape no bigger than about 1/4-inch square work fine. Don't make the hole too small, or diffraction effects will make things fuzzy."

I use this on regular shooting glasses, but it seems to work the same as on my prescription bifocals.

That's my experience. Got bifocals in 2011, and finally figured out why EOTechs never worked for me. 😔

On rifles and AR-style pistols, 2moa Aimpoints work for me. Never tried a true pistol red dot there. I'm sure others will chime in on it

So much this. Wish I could design my own reticle. Some are so ridiculous and gimmicky. I hate them.
Less: sometimes it's more.
I definitely see more Prisms on the market. Hopefully we'll soon get better choices.

Just started dealing with this issue. Thanks for the guidance here. My Romeo 1 Pro looks pretty crisp but Vortex is hazy. Could be quality/age on the Vortex. Romeo is fairly new. It’s become an issue spotting fish while fly fishing as well. Time for some rxn Costas I guess.

All red dots are diagonal lines to me. Sure I can still use them but it’s distracting. It’s the astigmatism. If I have to change the axis on my contacts then it’s changes a little too. Glasses can better nail the exact degree needed and I have less aberration when using them.
