This guy is on QRZ and builds some pretty cool stuff. This is a power controller that senses voltage when your vehicle is running and turns on your radio or other 12v accessories.
At $25 it seems like a cool thing to have, it is hard to find a switched power source in most cars that will handle 20A and doing a relay and running the wire is a hassle. This is simple.

Back by Popular Demand, new version!

I have had so MANY requests since the last time i made these to make more, so i revised them slightly to make them quicker and easier for me to produce while still providing a good working product.

Its the new Automatic Power Control Version 5.5... Can't believe theres been this many versions already!

The automatic power control is an easy to use mobile transceiver (or other DC Accessories) power control switch to protect your battery and transceiver from drained batteries and transient surges during engine starting. No additional connections are needed to the vehicle wiring, simply plug it in-line with your radios power cable and your set!

Also features a bypass switch, the bypass switch allows you to force the radio or other device thats connected on and keep it on for extended use, no timer is involved to shut the radio off so be sure you turn it off when you are done operating!

The installation is quite simple, accepts up to 12awg wire as found on most modern ham transceivers, cut the power cable (cable not included only shown for further explanation) in an appropriate location and strip and insert the wires into the terminal block connector and plug it into the APC. When the engine starts and the alternator begins generating power the DC system voltage in the vehicle will rise and the APC will turn on the output and provide power to your devices, in the case of most ham transceivers you just leave them turned on and you have automatic power up every time you start your vehicle. After you shut off the vehicle the DC system voltage drops and the APC detects the drop, after a few minutes it shuts off the output and no more battery drain by forgetting to shut things off! I have been using one of these in my own mobile install for years, and thanks to the demand of others i finally made another batch!

They are internally adjustable and instructions will be included in case you need to adjust it to your vehicles voltage levels, some vehicles might have a slightly lower running voltage depending on the health of the alternator and battery, this can be compensated for by an internal trimmer adjustment on the APC to set the turn on/off voltage point. I preset all of them to 13.6v which suites most vehicles.

That's cool and good features. I use something similar (not exactly the same) that doesn't have a bypass switch and is adjustable. It's good for 10 amps and was about $6 delivered from China. I put Anderson PowerPoles on the leads so it can be easily be inserted in the device power leads, because I use PP connectors on all my electronics. Good find, Paul.

Edit: I just looked on eBay and it looks like the price has gone up dramatically ($15) on the above unit. When they were first introduced, they wanted $9.95 Buy It Now, but I was the sole bidder on a couple of them at $6 each and won them. Doesn't look like the seller is doing anything other than Buy It Now.
