This morning when my wife left for work she slipped and fell. There was frost on the deck and her feet flew out from under her. She gathered herself back together and went on towards work. The farther she went, the more she hurt, so she drove herself to the ER.

By the time she got there she was in horrible pain. They did an X ray and then a CT scan. She has a compression fracture in her back and was having spasms, the cause of the pain. They were going to discharge her to go home and see an orthopedic guy tomorrow. He will fit her with a brace.

When they tried to get her out of the bed and into a wheelchair to go home, she couldn't do it, too much pain. I told them that we can't go home like this. If we did get home, how the hell could I take care of her? They agreed and admitted her overnight for observation.

Once they got her to a room and into the bed she settled down because by then the spasms had stopped. They've got her doped up and she's doing better. She wanted me to come home because she was going to sleep.

Tomorrow the ortho guy will visit her there and decide what to do as far as a brace is concerned. She's going to be in a lot of pain the next several days. I wish I could take the pain for her but it doesn't work that way.

I have already shared some of this in a group text earlier today and I want to thank everyone for their kind words and concern. It means a lot to me. This really is a big ol' family.

I will point out that she had a little dark haired hottie for a nurse in the ER.

Oh, man, Geez..thats tough. I feel for the missus but at least the prognosis is good.
Do your best to take care of her, pardner...

Prayers to you both, and I hope she gets a handle on the pain.

Prayers - tough especially with Christmas around the corner. Pain pills will do wonder.

Hate to hear that. It's always tough to watch a loved one in pain. Prayers up!

And I'm glad to hear the nurse is hot. Gotta look for that silver lining!

Trust me I feel back pain. Literally

Hopefully with a brace and managed pain it'll heal up in it's own with no surgery required

Best she can do is try not to let her strong will out do the medical instruction which will make recovery take longer and may require more invasive measures.

Hope she gets some rest

Sorry to hear about your wife. Tough time of year for this but then there is no good time to hurt. I know cause I been doing it for most of 30 years. Hope she mends real soon. Take good care of her.

Thanks to all for the well wishes and concerns.

I hope she feels better very soon Larry. Prayers up for a speedy recovery.

Sorry to hear this. I'm definitely glad it's not any worse.

Well wishes!!

Prayers for a quick recovery.

Ah, yes, the spasms. Those were the worst.

I broke my back on a Saturday at about 5PM. Burst fractured L1. I'm fused from T11-L2.

My surgery didn't happen until Monday Morning around 11AM. I kept getting bumped from the OR by by people who were more emergent. I never lost feeling in my legs and there were car accidents and people dying coming through the ER.....

So after laying in a bed with an untreated spinal fracture for about 36 hours, the spasms started. I felt like I was getting ripped in half with every one. They came about every half hour. Finally they gave me enough flexeril to knock out a horse and got me to the OR and fixed me.

Geezer I'm glad to hear Mrs. Geezer wont have to go through all that /\ and I hope she mends up quick with the brace. They sorta suck too, but not like the spasms did.

ouch..so sorry to hear this. hope she gets home and feeling better for the holidays. praying that someone else can help with the cooking.

Prayers for your wife.

For everyone else, his wife is hospitalized, and I'm getting pictures texted of hot nurses. We all know the real reason he's staying.

What you mean? I'm the cook around here. LOL Thanks for the kind words.

Sorry to hear this Larry. You and your wife will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I hate to hear this! Thoughts and prayers for her to get past the pain VERY soon. I hope you can be at home with family for Christmas.

Brother, sorry to hear that! Prayers for you and the wife! Let her know that we wish her well soon!

Ice man dadgum. That's the worst.
Slipped and fell one time...I swear you couldn't have thrown me down harder. Thought sure I broke my arm.
Slip and fall right on the tailbone? Oh yeah I can see why she's not liking that.
Thoughts and wishes Brother.

That's terrible... I sure hope she gets relief from the pain soon and a full recovery. Had a similar incident myself a couple years ago and can't say I'd ever care to relive it.

Sorry to hear about your wife's bad luck. Slipping on ice is really dangerous. Not to derail the thread, but rather because this made me think of it and could possibly help someone else, consider a product called Yak Trax if you routinely go over ice. They go on over your shoes or boots and will give you traction on ice. I got them last year at REI after slipping on ice and they really do work.
