You've got to love these Socialist and their efforts to tax people for no reason.

I don't have the type of job that would be affected by this ,but I don't begrudge anyone who can work from home. It could save some companies a large sum of money not to pay for over priced office space in a downtown skyscraper.
The company gets to pass the fixed cost on to the employees, power, water , building upkeep, internet connection, office supplies, janitorial supplies and much more.

Why not call it what it really is, Redistribution of YOUR WEALTH to other folks.

A research team at Deutsche Bank proposed that people pay a 5% tax for the “privilege” of working from home,
if they continue to do so after the pandemic, as this could subsidize income lost by lower-earners due to the coronavirus crisis.

Most companies will keep any savings, not pass along.

Yup,,,,,,,,,,

For example, based on an assumed average salary of $55,000 for a remote worker in the U.S., a 5% tax worked out to just over $10 a day — roughly what a worker might spend on commuting, lunch or laundry.

I suppose the following is NOT included, wonder if it's deductible?

Self serving crap - maybe deutsche bank owns real estate that is and will be taking a huge hit with companies downsizing offices.

I won't say I like their reasons, but i can understand how it COULD be a justifiable idea
People aren't commuting, so they're not spending as much on gas. That means the ~20% of gas price that you pay to state and federal taxes is staying in your pocket instead of going "back to the people"
If people are working from home, they get to reduce the city taxes they pay for the "privilege" of working in the city. Back up in detroit, working from home in the burbs meant you could take back more of the city tax they pulled from your check. And then that money went to the racists in the burbs instead of going "back to the people" that deserve it in the cities.
You're not buying prepared lunches/dinners in the cities either, so those services and restaurant taxes are disappearing back to the people who participate in corporate capitalism instead of going "back to the people"
Oh, and since living in the burbs usually gets you more money than living in the city, that's a lot of property tax the city is losing instead of being able to give it "back to the people".
Why do you think all those city youths have to engage in impromptu reparations?

i tell you, things sure aren't boring these days.

Screw Deutsch bank and their researchers, I was working from home for 5 years before covid-19 made it fashionable. And I have always (and still do) work more hours than my office bound co-workers.

Cooper and the other fools who shut down the economy over a bad type of flu should have thought through this before the shut down. I did. I mentioned the crash of commercial real estate at the beginning of the shut down.

The gov's just want everybody dependent on them, and then they can tax the rich to pay for everything, but the rich only have so much money or move away, and Bam! Venezuela.

I've been a remote worker since before it was cool. I deduct my office space as a business expense. My wife does too.

I should move this to tortuga so I can say what I really think about this proposal. And yes this is still in the open forum so language..... Edited a post already here...

Funny how every time normal people ( I use the term lightly) find a way to not pay a tax (spend less overall, buy fuel efficient vehicle/electric car, go geothermal, etc.), El Gordogov decides he is entitled to your money because he got used to receiving it. Therefore, you must send it in under a different label to make up for his inability to budget or think ahead.

F dat. Starve and die, bloated behemoth.

None of my employees are working from home any more, they just keep calling out sick and doing what they can while they are laid up. I feel bad because I really should pay the savings to the government instead of to my employees or investors who are taking all the damn risk while the government takes almost all the reward.

Another Dark Winter Shutdown on the way, Joe will SHUT IT DOWN. Pelosi will fund checks to everyone since Trump is going away.
Folks will get their monthly government income.

Someone always trying to make up another reason for the government to take money from you they did nothing to earn.
The end goal of government is to take all you make and they give you what they want you to have. They are not happy until they have it all.

Even THEN they’re not happy, because you’re not making as much for them as they think you should.

Reminds me of MeckCo water department 10 or so years ago during the drought.

Conserve, they said. So we did.
Don't water, they said. So we did.
We need to raise the rate cause we aren't making as much, they said. So we paid...

Ah, no thanks.
They also put through legislation threatening to go around and put water meters on peoples private wells.
Then the millions of letters started rolling in and basically said 'if we see anyone trying to put a meter on our well we'll shoot them.'

I've never seen legislation get dropped so fast.

I'm not sure how much lobbying power a German bank will have over Biden & Co., but it will certainly give him an idea to consider....

I’m guessing none. With Ukrainian and Chinese influence, Biden should be good.

In related news politicians all over the globe push tax on life. The new so called "Life Tax" will feature rates at 100% of assets and is retroactive to people who pass away before the tax can be implemented.

Something for people to consider when Government will not listen to grievance and redresses.

I propose they have a nice, piping hot cuppa STFU with a side order of suck the heat out of my ass.

You know who they did have power over? The Trump Organization to the tune of $340 million currently. Over the past 20 years they loaned Trump more than 2 Billion.

Also they are a dual listed Company. They are listed on the NY Stock exchange and the Frankfurt Exchange. They are IIRC the 20th or so largest financial institution in the world. They are huge global players.

Now this idea is total crap and I don’t see it happening here this is just a click bait headline to get people all worked up.

Why stop there? The next proposal will be a housing cost equity tax that will tax housing in low cost states per square foot to subsidize housing in high cost states. It is not "fair" that some people are wise enough to move to low cost states so they can live more comfortably on far less money.
This is the same logic Douchey bank is using for the WFH tax. That tax is also to discourage employers from hiring people that live in low cost states to work remotely.
I have a "permanent desk" at the office in Morrisville. But even after this I will likely have the option to only go into the office if I have to work in a space that cannot be accessed remotely.
This saves the company money too. Less need to expand office space.
Big Gov't supporters believe that every $ not taken in taxes is a $ given by gov't. Every dollar a company or taxpayer saves by lowering expenses is dollar they must tax.

oh, i need a link for that. If i see somebody messing with my water supply, i would also assume they are messing with my source of life-sustaining water and respond poorly. I should probably put a lock or something on my well house, come to think of it...

YES, this always kills me. govt people screaming about "how will we survive these losses?" easy - stop spending so much of MY money. govt is a nonprofit, and they need to function like one.

Then there is the Biden "transition" adviser saying that because people are saving so much ore now the gov't can confiscate it, ooops I mean "borrow" it to cover losses in a planned Biden economic blackout.
