Based on My Ol’ Cheapo Lunch Today…. Thought I Would Ask: What’s Your Favorite Chef-Boyardee??

Campbell's bought the Spaghettio's brand some time back, from Franco-American? The Spaghettio's with meatballs is my fav with hot sauce, as is the raviolis small and large from Chef Boyardee.

And therein lies the rub. Most all those canned pasta products in general are loaded with sodium and other assorted nasty chemicals that make them taste so good. So they fill in when I'm absolutely desperate.... 😆

Agreed…You’ll understand my desperation when you see my post in:

When I was a kid, it was all right. As I got older, all the Chef Boyardee products come across as having a slight..."metallic"?...tang to them.

I'll eat them, but they really don't do anything for me any more. My favorite used to be the ravioli, however.

Those were my goto meals for a year when I worked third shift - maybe around 2009? There weren't a lot of places open to grab food at that time of night, a can of great value mini ravioli or beefaroni was about $0.65 in 2009, and it didn't screw with my stomach. Throw on some pepper and load up with red hot/texas pete/crystal.

"Worked third shift" is a bit of a stretch. Yes I was at work. But my job consisted of looking at 3 screens waiting for something to turn red. If I arranged all the tools just right I could fit them all on 2 monitors, then watch movies from a thumb drive on the third monitor while waiting for something to turn red. I'd watch 2-4 movies a night.

😜 The hot sauce fixes all that...... :D

I never thought to check into homeade Spaghettios. Who knew you can buy the pasta rings.

Pasta Rings

There's tons of sauce recipes in Internetland, just have to get some meatballs.

My mother was born in Italy, my wife 100% Italian. I have eaten some pretty bad stuff over the years, but I'd rather eat MRE's for a month than eat spaghetti/sauce out of a can!!! :)

Several months ago, I saw they had a retro version of the Chef Boyardee in a yellow can that the advertising said it was the original formula recipe from the 70s, in other words, like we grew up with. I am not sure what the difference is, no corn syrup maybe? They were more expensive, though, and I haven't seen them in a while.

Spaghetti and meatballs!
The wife loves all kinds of pasta, and she's a great cook, but if there's no meat involved then I pass.
I could go the rest of my life on Chefboy, mac-n-cheese hamburger helper, and vienna sausages, but she'd puke at the sight of any of it.
I'll admit though....never could stand lasagna, but man I love hers! (lots of MEAT).

When I was a kid, my thing was cold cream of celery soup, straight out of the can with a spoon.

I'd say that's gross, but I used to eat butter by the stick, and hope like heck that mom didn't use every drop of evaporated milk for whatever she was cooking.

Meh.

They're OK, but as a kid I grew up with Sardines. I haven't had any in ages and can't remember which ones I used to eat the most of when I was younger. I'll have to ask my brothers. I'm thinking the mustard ones were my favorite.

I'm also thinking that's something I'll have to pick up sometime just to see my wife turn on her disgusting gag face. That's entertainment, right there! My youngest daughter and I do this intentionally whenever we go someplace where we can eat lobster and such, because we'll pick up the lobster/shrimp/crab and make them carry on conversations with each other across the table and boy does my wife get spun up!

😆

I've found I like the BBQ ones best too. I usually put them in the fridge for a while too as that often helps the BBQ glob congeal and stick.
Lol, I mostly eat them as snacks while at work. I’ll put them on the dash with defrost on them so there isn’t any “Jelly”

We ate a lot of chef boyardee out of a can when I was a kid never loved it but it was cheap and what my folks could afford.
we hardly ever open a can around here anymore almost everything fresh
even as I type this my wifes in the kitchen steaming broccoli and roasting squash and zucchini for tomorrow's supper.
Don't think I could go back but y'all enjoy

I take Vienna sausages with me everywhere and definitely on the boat. Agreed, got to get the jelly turned into broth, which I pour out to the pups. It’s a great and easy snack when you are out fishing …. AND…. They work awesome in minnow traps! Saltwater or fresh those little minnows can’t resist ‘em! Fishing the marsh, you’ll be loaded up with mummichogs (aka: mud minnows / flounder and trout candy), in no time!

Not sure if it was the chef or not but I was a huge fan of beanie weanies in my teen years.

Worked driving a loader truck for the old man who sprayed crops. When I’d park for operations around lunch time I’d set the can on the hot engine for about 20 minutes.

If I forgot to pack a can I’d get sardines and saltines at a country store.

Chef Boyardee kicks my acid reflux into overdrive.

A jar of Bertoli, box of zitti and some frozen meatballs will cost about the same for equivalent serving size.

Add some shredded parmesan from a bag not the plastic can and a bit of half n half from AM coffee and ya got a gourmet meal.
