Be prepared to move the forum again

I take nightly encrypted snapshots of the DB and offload them to a secure non AWS location.

Our traffic and dns is being routed through cloudflare so I can redirect our cache pretty easy. I’ve also separated attachments to a simple storage account so even if the server is somehow nuked the backend can still pull attachments with very minimal effort.

We don’t run an active active due to cost but I have a pretty solid active/passive plan in place.
I don't know a single thing you said BUT as always I muchly appreciate all you do for me. Me as in me and RS....we love this place.

So just in case this place does go dark, can somebody in charge provide us (now) with downloadable instructions on how we get together on the other side?
we should be doing that anyway .

i dont know what i will do if the site is gone. i get 40% of my daily entertainment from here and 80 percent of my news.

Been reported that google is blocking ar15.com from their dns. I haven’t had any issues but I don’t use google dns

Arfcom is saying people can still get in until their DNS cache expiries.

windows machine goto command prompt and type in ipconfig /flushdns if you've changed it to a dns provider that isnt old or antiquated

I used to be able to buy an AR-15 through the mail.

I would even forgive the clips in the ad to be able to go back to those times lol

All this is doing me a considerable concern..............

I've never been a tin foil hat guy, but I don't think this is a coincidence:

WASHINGTON — The FBI is warning of plans for armed protests at all 50 state capitals and in Washington, D.C., in the days leading up to President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration, stoking fears of more bloodshed after last week's deadly siege at the U.S. Capitol.

An internal FBI bulletin warned, as of Sunday, that the nationwide protests may start later this week and extend through Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration, according to two law enforcement officials who read details of the memo to The Associated Press. Investigators believe some of the people are members of extremist groups, the officials said. The bulletin was first reported by ABC.

“Armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 January through at least 20 January, and at the U.S. Capitol from 17 January through 20 January,” the bulletin said, according to one official. The officials were not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity.

The FBI issued at least one other bulletin — they go out to law enforcement nationwide on the topic — before the riots last week. On Dec. 29, it warned of the potential for armed demonstrators targeting legislatures, the second official said.

FB shut down Law Enforcement Today that had 900,000 members. Anti Abortion groups also being attacked and silenced on line. Everything they don't like they are attacking. Sounds grounds for lawsuits. Remember the baker incident where they had to provide for those they disagreed with. Will come back on them. Also totally unexpected support from Chancellor Markle of Germany scolding Twitter for banning Trump.

The precious courts wouldn’t even look at the mountains of evidence, video, sworn affidavit, statistical, or otherwise about the election fraud these companies helped perpetrate. What makes you think they’re going to slap them for censorship? The only reason I can think of that they might is because they’re part of the spy and surveillance apparatus and censorship is creating a huge blind spot as whole groups go dark.

Let me translate:

Washington - The FBI is warning that their political overlords have hired Antifa to dress like conservatives and burn state capitols to the ground in order to further show conservatives as gun toting lunatics and creating terror among the liberal community. Thus providing a fertile climate for gun confiscation.

Armed protests are being planned at all 50 state capitols from 16 Jan thru at least 20 Jan because we don't have enough paid actors or busses to hit all the capitols at once.

As long as we have adequate member support and no problems from our servers or Xenforo we intend to keep on keeping on. We're in it for the long haul and have no desire of throwing in the towel.

The waters ahead look rough but we're headed into the storm with all who pledge to stay the course.
I am confident of the intentions and resolve of the staff and owners. I am NOT confident that this resolution and resolve will be able to overcome the deplatforming which has already come to many and will likely come to us as well.
This is YOUR gig, and I am just a paid placeholder, but my advice (for what little it is worth) is... MOVE NOW. Find yourself a source which cannot be booted from the web because some prissy 27 year old with a gun phobia thinks you are a "danger." You have guys who are very smart webbies who certainly can find such sources. My further advice (for what tiny tiny bit this is worth) is to keep abreast of the decentralization of "servers" are springing up in the cryptouniverse. The days of the centralized sources of power are being hacked at the roots even now, and there are incipient tech companies which will eventually make "deplatforming" an interesting ancient relic.

For what all that is worth.......

I understood none of that.
And please don't try to explain. If you don't explain it as you would to a toddler, I won't understand the explanation either.
I'm glad you're on top of it, though. Thanks for all the work.

I realize the owners of this site probably have, or are developing a plan for when we get booted. But it would be good to prepare the rest of us. Even now, we are getting newcomers to this site saying that they were active on one of the legacy sites and "I just found you, didn't know where everybody went". Even if it's just a URL that gives instructions on how to meet up again, that would be important.

As a follow up..... Here is an article on cloudfare, gab, and deplatforming. https://www.theepochtimes.com/gab-c...ervice-after-users-report-errors_3652754.html

IT IS TRUE THAT THERE IS NO CURRENT EVIDENCE TO SUGGEST THAT CLOUDFARE HAS BEEN TAKEN OVER BY FASCISTS, NOR THAT THEY ARE HAVING AN INFLUENCE THERE. However, anyone who thinks that the speech police are not lusting over cloudfare (which is a HUGE market, and necessary for those who utilize them to get out their content), is frankly an idiot. They will try to force compliance with their agenda, and will try to exert that over cloudfare, as well, as their lust for power is insatiable. I expect them to come after us. I ain't hiding under my bed in terror about it, but I do expect it. Do you?

As another aside. Whenever I set my vpn to Iceland, Netherlands, Germany, France, Costa Rica, Argentina, Panama...., basically anywhere but N. America (actually Mexico is in North America but it nukes them too), I get a msg from cloudfare that the site is inaccessible.
I do just switch servers (Canada, right now) but I don't know if that decision is completely out of your hands or not. Not a huge issue. Just sayin' though.

As all of you know this is Not part of my expertise. I am PROUD to say that our Battery Oaks Alumni are working hour by hour to keep us All in touch should the worst happen. ........prepare.

That's working as designed I think. Same observation here.

I'm surprised they let Canadians in :)

I cannot have my ip address as the USA because of US Treasury pressure on foreign exchanges. They ban all US logins at all of the major crypto exchanges... with defi, though, "exchanges" and "brokerages" will be dead as a dodo bird within 5 years.

Is Xenforo the type of product you install at a host or do they host the forum as a service? I could see forum hosting services taking the opportunity to silence people they don't like for the sake of virtue signaling.
I was nosing around their site and it looks like a purchase, do it yourself product. I like it a lot compared to other gun forums. Very modern, fast and intuitive.

The godaddy DNS ditch for no cause for ar15.com is very concerning.

In years past I thought it a bit tinfoil hat of the survivalblog guy to post his IP address in case he is taken offline (https://survivalblog.com/2010/12/11/survivalblogs-ip-address-a/) Looks like I was wrong!

These are on the blocklist. @tanstaafl72555 I did remove a few countries. This was set up prior to the recent censorship. We actually had more attacks vs users logging in which is why it was blocked.

Anyone trusting in the long term reliability of the gracious hosting willingness of Godaddy for a site like this is.... lets be gracious here and call it "naive."
You guys should be exploring some decentralized server technology like Akash. I am dead serious. You won't be caught flat footed by some arbitrary and imperious decision by the PC crowd on godaddy (or one of their buddies) and have to wail to your subscribers that you just don't know what to do because no one in the industry will host sites like this.

Forewarned is forearmed. Think about it.

I was searching on this to get more information. After sifting through Hinduism and Indian pinup boys I found this:

Akash - https://akash.network/

This is an interesting idea I'm still trying to wrap my head around. I develop mostly in Angular and Azure and this environment is a bit foreign.
After reviewing some of the docs it appears GitHub (now Microsoft) is a weak link. It would hold your config for the app container.
