For a .22 semi-auto pistol destined to be a suppressor host, in terms of 1dependability, 2 accuracy and 3 magazine capacity, which one would you recommend?

I love the accuracy and form factor of my Walther PPQ, but it is not reliable. It does not feed non supersonic ammo reliably, and Walther has not been able to get it to run dependably.

I’m seeing similar problems with a SIG.

And it seems like there are few options for a .22 with more than a 10 round capacity mag.

Advice?

Glock 44 with Pro Mag magazines. Mine runs like a singer sewing machine. I think the Sig P322 would be worth investigating. I do not have one, but have heard things by owners.

Edited to add Sig

The SIG Mosquito can run reliably if the barrel is properly bedded and locked down . The barrels get loose easily and they move while shooting. A little loctite goes a long way

Dang- don't tell me that! I've got a PPQ 22 Tactical on layaway and had high hopes for it!

I'm using an M&P compact. Looses in the mag capacity game at 10, but it's very reliable with everything with our without the can (element2). It's oddly the only M&P I still own, can't see giving it up.

I've got a G44 with an extra threaded barrel (OEM, not sure if they make a threaded from the factory SKU yet) and it sucks. Stupidly threaded with whatever eurotrash thread pattern they use over there, comes with the little adapter to change it to the US market but that damn thing comes loose easily, or you crank it down and it sticks in the can when you take it off. Also with the can the POI shifts UP like 6" at 10 yards meaning I have to aim at the bottom of my little bullet trap. I've got 5712 rounds through it according to the records, so I'm kinda familiar with how it runs. It's ammo sensitive and has 10 round mags so even if it was reliable it's not going to win any capacity wars.

Get a Keltec CP33 so we can see how it works on your dime. :)

I like my 15 rd Beretta M9-22 and my Beretta 4" & 6" Neos, both have a threaded insert to accept the suppressor.

Whatever you get make sure it's fixed barrel. Absolutely no reason on God's green earth to use a tilting barrel on a 22 long rifle suppressor host. My favorite is a Ruger Mark II heavy barrel I had cut down to three and a half inches. It will keep bulk pack (supersonic) ammo in the subsonic velocities and of course subsonic ammo is quiet as a mouse. The ruger mags are 10 rounds. Excellent sites and a great trigger.

Wow you and I have had very different experiences with the Glock 44. Except the thread pattern. That really does suck.

Very happy with my FN502, comes with a 10 and 15 round mag, has been pretty reliable for a .22 both suppressed and unsuppressed and can use the same size holsters for its larger brother the FN509. Both make excellent suppressor hosts.

It's the most effective glock training pistol out there (which is why our casual crew of 3 has 3 of them). It's just not the best general purpose 22 out there which is sad since I'm pretty much a glock fanboi.

Training or fun?

Pure out and out fun the Ruger Mk IV and Ruger 22/45 are hard to be for a suppressor.

If training is part of it you gotta factor in what you main SD/HD handgun is … and outside of the FN my BIL has I have not got enough time to really back anything.

It won’t knock over steel plates to easy much past 25 yards but it damn sure will ring ‘em!

Favorites are a pair of S&W m41s.
Ruger MKII is my second favorite and I have several, let me know if you want to try one I’m sure the CFF railroad could get it you.
The m41s get cleaned at about 500 rounds, the MKIIs get cleaned sometime, maybe later.

I am thinking that I want to buy a M&P 15-22 pistol to SBR

I actually own a Ruger 22/45. My complaints about it are that it's a pain to take apart to clean, and there is more noise out of the breech than the PPQ.

Lots of great advice from y'all, many thanks.

The CP33 sure is tempting due to the 33 round mag capacity.

Derek, are the FN502's fixed barrel guns?

The 16 round TX22 looks promising too. It would be nice to have one already cut for an optic.

I'll make a list from y'alls recommendations and stop by the LGS to see which ones fit my hands the best.

Mine is an early model. They may have better reliability with the newer guns. It feels great and IS a tack driver.

You really should tell us where/when that is so we can come apply the correct peer pressure to get something that's not covered so we have new data.

I suppose technically it’s fixed. It has rails on the bottom of the breach that ride in the frame. But it disassembles a normal pistol if that makes sense.

I’ve own/owned the P22, M&P22 FS, MKIV 22/45 Lite. The P22 is too small and I don’t have very large hands. The M&P is great unsuppressed but gets dirty very quickly with a can. The 22/45 Lite has been great, trigger is better than the other 2, but I dislike the position of the safety, it gets in the way of a moderately high grip.

Mine is a rebuild i bought off somebody after it shot crooked and blew up a suppressor...
now that i have a extra 22 suppressors, it will probably get put into rotation a whole lot more. might be a good host for a stainless sparrow since it's not all light like the p22

S&W 422 is my favorite. Super light, simple threaded bbl nut is all that's needed to host.
Agree with you here. Great choice, and the low barrel is really nice with the can. Overlooked gun, but a good one.
22/45 is also fun.

I second this. I have the same set ups and love both.
