In my limited experience shooting on a clock...I have to say I agree with this.
It really depends on what is important though. Is there a tiny difference between them if you're really pushing? Yes. But if you're shooting a cheap Primary Arms red dot versus a Vortex Razor 1-6? Razor wins every time.
Only scenario where an LPVO doesn't win is if you're shooting steel plates within, say, 35 yards and going for the fastest string possible. Then a red dot with the largest window and least amount of housing around the dot window is the best.
For anything remotely practical, the LPVO is king. I'd also echo the advice about having a red dot rifle and a LPVO rifle. However, I'm asked all the time what one should set up if they could only have ONE AR-15.
The answer is always LPVO to that question. With a Vortex Viper PST 1-6 you can:
1. Hunt deer
2. Shoot a 3 gun competition
3. Defend the homestead
I own both Razor 1-6 and the Viper PST 1-6 and I can say it is true that the Viper is 90 percent of the Razor. It's that good.
