It is finally time to replace an HP all-in-one printer that has a duplex (2-sides) auto document feeder for scanning and copying.
The current one (office Pro 8740) sometimes jambs when printing 2 sides, the flat bed glass is cracked, and the cartridges are expensive.

I’m looking at “big tank” printers that will allow me to move away from the “genuine HP cartridge scam”
The Epson printers don’t do duplex copying and it isn’t clear if the Cannon or new HP printers allow it without a bunch of swapping.

Any suggestions?

Been very pleased with my epson large tank for home/light business use and printing kids items. It will print duplex although never tried to copy duplex with it. Its a older model now (ET-4750) as i have had it probably 3 years or more but would not want to go back to cartridges .

Although it takes a few steps, the Epson Workforce 2850 will produce sided copies. I have a Epson tank printer and love it. I have not bought a cartridge in three years. One draw back of a tank is you need to print something, anything once a week or you will be running a print nozzle cleaning using a liquid kit. I did go 3 weeks without printing and the colors looked fine on the second page.

This is why I'm going laser with my next printer. I've lost so much money on nozzle cleaning and ruined cartridges due to infrequent use that I'm sick of dealing with it.

That hasnt been my experience with the epson tank model, is yours a tank or a cartridge printer? My previous cannon that ran cartridges was a nightmare but not so with the tank or on my dads or brothers. But i am usually printing something at-least once a week.

My experience has been with the cartridge printers ruining the cartridge, but my understanding is that the ink tank printers will also clog the heads if not printing weekly, necessitating cleaning. I usually end up having it sit for long periods and then need to print a bunch of stuff, including 11x17s, so the laser makes more sense for me.

I’ll never have another cartridge printer. The money I saved after the printer cost has been many hundreds since well before the Covid death plague. There is nothing good about promising someone a document and not being able to find a cartridge. Even the drive to procure one drives me nuts. Epson tank printers are well worth the initial higher cost.

We print a couple times a week - sometimes a multiple times day - so dried up print heads are not an issue.

I like the current our HP 8740 all-in-one except for the inability to use non-HP cartridges, feed issues that just started (it is about 5 years old and has printed 8080 pages) and the glass that was cracked two moves ago. We also have an HP 8710 in my wife’s office with the same cartridges and restriction that works good.

At one time we could use non-HP cartridges but the bastards did an update that blocked them. It now costs over $100 to replace a full set… I complained and HP insisted that they did not do that but in real life they did. AND I’m still pissed about it.

Ink cost is a factor (I'm uncomfortable with the cost of lazer), need color, automatic doccument feed, duplex copying (2 side) , duplex printing, and scanning.
Don’t need fax… but has to be wireless.

The Epson, Cannon, or Brother big tanks have most of what I need but, it is almost impossible to tell if they have duplex copying. The HP 7301 seems to have everything including duplex copying but I’m pissed at HP for the cartridge issue and purchasing another HP printer is low on my list.
