So I got myself a new Tracker Grizzly 1754 last year, without an engine. I took the remote controlled 9.9 Merc off of my Gheenoe and mounted it on the Tracker while I waited for the purchase of a new , larger engine, for which I had built a steering console.
I rigged up the controls and the stick steer from the Gheenoe temporarily on the port side, which worked, but was awkward.
Well, there are no "new" larger engines available any time in the near future, so, since we'll be hosting two of the grandsons at the lake for 4 days next week, I moved the controls to starboard and used an old steering helm that I had on hand in the console and hooked up the 9.9 in the normal fashion. Should work easier for limping around the lake with the boys next week.
So that's what I did in the "garage" this week!

What size motor are you going to want to put on boat permanently?

I'd hope to find a deal on a 9.9hp for my Gheenoe. My wife has discovered she LOVES being on the water.
Mine is an older 15.4 and the 9.9 moved it pretty well. It can be upgraded to a 15hp with a carb swap, but I haven't done that yet. Mine is a long (20") shaft, so I made an aluminum jack plate for the Gheenoe to raise it up a bit. The stick steer worked well mounted for mid seat use.

I had a 4 stroke Suzuki 140 and loved that motor. I would not hesitate buying another Suzuki for the next boat.

Isn't it easier to just get a small metal bucket and every so often just take all the money from your wallet and burn it in said bucket?

50-70hp...been holding out for a new Yamaha, but would consider a Suzuki or Honda.
My 1860 tracker had a 60 on it but was rated for a 90. I miss that boat

I bought this one as a tiller boat, being a tiller it's rated at 50hp. The same boat with a sterring console is rated at 70hp. I made my own console, not sure how picky a dealer would be about mounting anything over 50hp....I know my local guy would do it, but we go way back.

Boats are devices designed to convert money into fun. Some are more efficient than others, but that's all any of them do.

I have a Lowe 1752 with a 50hp 2cyl 1998 E-rude 2smoke (deactivated the auto oiler and premix). Same HP ratings as you stated 50hp tiller and 70 controlled. I ended up adding extra large beavertail pods to the back to help with flotation in the rear. I would not want a 4 stroke on these boats due to the extra weight over 2smoke. The interior is pretty well mod'd before me but I'm running around 34mph with 12 gallons of gas which gets me around 70 miles. With all the crap gas out there, the carb'd motors will fair a lot better with traces of water than the injected 4 strokes. My mech told me an injector replacement due to ethanol damage on my Yami 115 is $1,400-1,500. I run 10 micron racors.

There are 40-60 hp 2smokes that go up for sale between 2k-3,500 pretty regularly on facebook, but you may have to come east. I paid $2,500 for this 50 but the my mechanic new the history.

I’m rebuilding a Crestliner pontoon. I gutted it and put in a new floor and vinyl, polished the toons, polished the fence, ordered new furniture and I’m waiting for a 115 Honda to come in this month. I’ll post pictures when I’m through with it. Still looking for a trailer for a 24 foot boat.

Small world...we have a 22' Crestliner. Bought it 6 years ago for $2k with rotten furniture and no engine, but it had a like new trailer. I ended up replacing the floor just because the boat justified it,

Years ago I rebuilt a 24' Party Barge and decided that I'd build a trailer for it. Not counting my labor I spent more on that build than a new factory trailer would have cost.

I picked mine up for hauling it away. Scraped all the furniture, it had been recovered once and it was a bad job! I’ve buffed the paint on the the toons and ordered the wiring harness and furniture. It had a good Bimini top and a full cover for the boat. Finding a motor has been tough! F3AE8197-D6F1-4ADA-8C3C-E7D9AB4B8143.jpeg

Just like mine, I think mine is a 2000, same console as yours, color scheme and toon paint is tan on mine. Pretty well built boats.

Yeah, they were high end boats and make a great rebuild!

I’m changing out the console with a new one.
