I picked up a rossi gallery pump 22lr today. Someone had taken the rear sight off and apparently boogered up the holes on the barrel. I have the sight, but no screws. I'm sure I can get screws, but what about the holes?

They appear to have red loctite in them and smeard around the holes.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Should be able to use a Q-tip and either acetone or lacquer thinner to remove the loctite.

Do the hole threads look stripped? If I remember correctly, the Rossi rear sight uses two 6-48 Phillips screws. If the holes are jacked, you can have them redrilled/tapped for 8-40.

So, I ordered a Pachmayr master gunsmith screw kit from the bay of fleas. It came Saturday and I got to work. The rear sight holes had what I thought was Loctite in them, but it appeared to be some sort of red, waxy, plastic stuff, might have been Loctite, for all I know. Anyway, i picked the stuff out of the holes, started with the screws @Dale Gribble suggested above. Lo and behold, they screwed right in and tightened up. Installed sight, loaded a tube of random bullets, and went to shooting. Thing shot perfect, and the sights were pretty close on.

I'm glad it was such an easy fix.
