I put 30 pound braid on one of my Abu Garcia 6000 reels. I have heard that it can bend the spool. Is this a reasonable concern or just internet flak?
Never had it happen. Just don't pull any trucks with it and you should be fine.

Braid does nasty things to a lot of reels and the ABU's are one of them I quit using the crap and went back to low stretch mono, problems solved...
Never hurt a reel with braid. But I did snap a rod in half years ago when braids first came out. Turns out it is not a good idea to attempt a hulk like hook set and hoist a large bass out of the muck with a cheap rod and braid. Who knew?
I did eventually get that fish though. Just had to pull him and half a rod in by hand. It wasn't really huge though. About 6 lbs with about 15 lbs of hydrilla.
