So a C96 Mauser fell into my lap this morning. I know nothing about these other than Han shot first. This one may not be serviceable as the barrel has a plug welded in it. But I still would like to learn a little more about it. I looked up "C96 Identification" and came up with a web page listing about 15 different models, all of which look identical to my eye. What can you tell me about this one?

it has:
- Bakelite grips
- stock attachment point, but no stock.
- no serial numbers
- locking block looks damaged?
- safety is different from videos I found online. it just falls out
- firing pin appears to be clipped
- the firing pin channel at the bolt face appears to be brazed shut

Thanks

Nice find!
There is a very deep rabbit hole you can go down with these but it seems like a German made gun, refinished at some point and the “red 9” grips are most likely after market (they look too good!). That said I would love to have it!
I would not fret too much about the barrel as it can be relined and from the condition it seems that would be a good investment.

Just finished with Forgotten Weapons video on these pistols. Now it's embarrassingly obvious that this one is not real. I didn't know there were replicas of these things floating around. Maybe I'll build a DL-44 with it :)

There are replicas for many of the classic handguns and rifles. The earlier versions (70s) were found to be able to actually fire a round (once) and they were then modified to prohibit that! Some of the early replicas are so finely made that they have become collector's items in themselves.

Still pretty cool. I have a replica artillery Luger from the same era. The Japanese made a lot of cast/pot metal replica guns back then. Their early replica MP-40s were especially nice and are highly sought after now.

The early FG42 replicas are in high demand too

Don't feel too bad, that thing puts airsoft/other replica non-guns to shame.
