Buccaneer Gun Club IDPA

Very fun match yesterday and another great lunch at Fishy-Fishy afterwards.

“Shrimps” ‘n grits were very good and a beautiful day to sit outside on the water.

How does someone learn the ropes to come out and participate? I'm in Boiling Spring Lakes so seems like a bad idea NOT to attend.

No, won’t make it out just yet, kids have a few more weeks of swim on Saturday mornings. Hope too later this spring though.

@Mathieu18 come shoot with us.
I keep reading up on it and can't lie I'm intimidated by it all. Even where to start, I have a Shield with a 7, 8 & 9 round magazine and I swapped the trigger springs with an MCarbo kit and polished the internals. So it's not factory, and regardless I think I need to swap the baseplate again to get rid of the 9 round magazine for CCP division?

Edit: just re-read the rules again, looks like the action enhancement is okay and I guess I understand you just load to 8, so maybe I need another 8 or +2 since it shoots better with a grip...

Basically I'm not at all set up to shoot competitively (but I like how my polished Shield runs now). Anyway every time I dig in it sounds fun but I need to do more learning on the rules etc.

Or maybe I just need another gun just for IDPA? 😁

Come out, we'll walk you thru it.

You can shoot your Shield in Backup Gun Division with all mags loaded with 6rds. You don't need to remove the magazine's baseplate.

You can shoot it in CCP division (10rd mag capacity now) but you will be at a disadvantage running 7rd mags, per the rules all your mags have to be loaded with the same number of rounds up to Division capacity unless the stage design requires you to start down loaded. So you can't have 7 in one, 8 in another and 9 in another one. All will have to be loaded with 7 rounds.

Come out and shoot, I promise you'll have fun.

Buccaneer also allows .22LR handguns for the match in Specialty Division.

There is no need to be intimidated. I feel you will be glad you came and will be surprised how easy it is to participate. Reading the rule book can make your head spin for sure, but you do not have to memorize them all. Each stage will be described by a range officer so you will know what to do.

I've shot a Shield in IDPA for years. That gun will be just fine.

Let me add...don't worry about competing. This is the premier chance to learn how your actual carry gun performs under stress and time constraints. Dont be afraid to screw up in front of people; its the best way to learn. Shoot it like you actually carry it...mag reloads and all. This is the most valuable information you'll ever encounter, because at the end of the day this will be completely subjective. If you shoot it in 3 competitions just like you carry it, you'll learn that either the gun sucks for you, the gun is great for you, the way you carry and reload is good or bad, and if your holster is practical for you specifically. Everything else is just talk.
I want even consider carrying a gun gun long term unless I test it in 3 competitions.

Let me add...if you decide to keep shooting it in competition, then buy another recoil spring. They last 7000 rounds in the Shield, but you want to carry a brand new one and use the old one for practice and competition. The Shield will start having feed issues shortly after the 7000 round mark. Also, since its a double RSA, and is so stout, underpowered ammo may also feed unreliably in the Shield. Its set up to shoot +p, and likes hotter 9mm. Otherwise the Shield is extremely reliable.

Appreicate the thoughts, and very valid point, not like I'll be shooting for 1st place or anything. I'm gonna get out there eventually, maybe 5/7. And thanks for the tips on the recoil spring, something I'll watch out for, I should be a bit under 1000 rounds at this point. When/if I get my range setup 7,000 will get here more quickly.

Registration for June's match is open:
The IDPA match at Buccaneer Gun Club scheduled for Saturday June 4, 2022 will start at 12PM because of a scheduled Buccaneer Gun Club workday. We will start the match promptly at 12PM. We are planning on six unlimited 12-14 round stages so you will need approximately 90 rounds for this match, and as always, bring a few extra rounds just in case you need to re-shoot a stage. For this match all guns and magazines will be loaded to IDPA division capacity (i.e. CDP and CCP with 8 rounds, SSP and ESP with 10 rounds etc.) unless otherwise specified by a stage description. Concealment WILL be required (vest, jacket shirt etc.). You may shoot a 22 rimfire firearm in this match but you must register as NFC (not for competition). But, you will still need a holster and magazine holders too. Please be at the range by 1130 (11:30 AM) to check in and please observe the 13MPH speed limit when entering and leaving the club. Also, we will have designated parking areas so that our new grass seeding is not disturbed unnecessarily. If you sign up online the match fee has been reduced to $10. if you DO NOT SIGN UP ONLINE and you show up to shoot the match, then the fee is $25. Again, THE MATCH WILL START PROMPTLY AT 12PM (1200). Sign up at this link if you haven't already done so and be sure to select your squad when you sign up: https://practiscore.com/buccaneer-gun-club-idpa-june-4-2022-1/register [practiscore.com]
