Bullseye Shooting?

Yeah, shot on a state team in the late 80’s - early 90’s.

Here, you’re gonna want this:

“… this is the "Bible" of Bullseye Pistol Shooting. No one serious about the game of shooting should miss the information in this booklet.

Sir Walter Gun Club in Creedmoor has monthly match but not every month. I think they shut down in winter. You need some specialized eqpt such as a shooting box, spotting scope, brass catcher. At least you do at SWGC. Hot brass down the shirt of your neighbor on the line is not ok. Its one handed shooting. I guess you could shoot irons but most use dots these days. Good luck.

Durham pistol and rifle club at Haw River is having a Bullseye match this coming Sunday. Bring 25 bucks, a pistol and 100 rounds of ammo, or 300 rounds if you want to shoot a full match, and come shoot. Sign up on their web page. They take your money at the clubhouse. If you need a pistol box and a small spotting scope, let me know. Some folks use binoculars in a pinch, but .22 holes are hard to see. You can shoot just .22, or use a .45/9mm/.38 semiautomatic or revolver in addition to the .22 part of the match.
Easier to participate with just the .22 for the first time.
DPRC.org gets you to the event calendar where you can sign up.
RULEBOOK is on CMP website: theCMP.org

It's pretty popular in North Carolina... nothing like California, Arizona, Colorado, Alabama, Indiana, or Ohio (all the hubs for USA Shooting, NRA, and CMP events), but it's still popular... as far as old school, niche sports can be. The crowd does skew older than USPSA and IDPA matches, on average. I'm 35, and I'm while I'm not sure I've ever been the youngest guy at a bullseye match, I am pretty close to that end of the spectrum.

Give it a whirl . . . Started shooting Bullseye 30 years ago and learned marksmanship skills that easily translated to other disciplines.
Its all about precision - not speed. Fastest you will shoot is 5 shots in 10 seconds.

Oh - and you are only allowed to use one hand . . . . rapid fire with the .45 at 25 yards is a special treat . . .

I shot bullseye for USMC and awhile after. It's nothing like "combat match" or tactical shooting. It's an entirely different game, purely focused on repeatable precision ( think benchrest without the bench) while focusing on trigger pull and heartrate/heartbeat. The basics are applicable to tactical shooting, but it swerves hard in the opposite direction after that.
It's very, very challenging and rewarding IF you'll expend the dedication. If not, run away cause it'll make you crazy. There are no "part-timers" in the game, only full-fledged acolytes. It's always been on my "get back into it in retirement" list, but I'm not sure my current eyesight will let me be competitive.
