I was waiting around in the electronics section of Walmart today for them to bring me a fit bit from the back and noticed their rack of no subscription /prepaid phones/cards. Some were just sim cards you can use in your own phone.

So can those be used without having to create some kind of account identifying the user? With all the surveillance today I'd be shocked if 'they' still allow that. Just curious. Asking for a friend. šŸ˜

Well you have to pay cash to even begin to do it but I'm pretty sure they can match the movements of the burner to your legit phone if you carry both at the same time.

And that's assuming they didn't get you with facial recognition from the checkout cameras or traffic cams or cctv from places you walked past.

It'll be anonymous right up until the first moment there's some association between the burner phone and an existing identity, like being at the same place (cell network location data) or communicating with the same people. Maybe even pairing with the same bluetooth devices or using the same wifi networks. And if they really wanted to find out who bought the SIM card or whatever, then yeah, CCTV/facial recognition could come into play.

There are vast intelligence platforms dedicated to looking for these associations or linked networks of phones, internet addresses, social media, etc. If I remember correctly, al-Qaeda was famous for relying on human messengers and face-to-face communication, because they figured out quickly that anything electronic was compromised almost from the start. Perhaps a factor in how long it took to find Bin Laden.

But there's still a human element involved in sorting through all the noise, so "they" probably don't waste time on low value targets.

Like with Tor. Thatā€™s how the FIB ā€œcaughtā€ what they hoped was the head of Anonymous, though, they mis judged the value of dispersed authority.

None of us are that important to need a burner phone to do whatever things we think the gov are following us for.
Plus, better hop off this site, Im sure they can use your IP to figure you out, too.

We are all being monitored by bots. Lessens the need for humans. When the bots build up enough info to deem you a person of interest they put a human on it.
When the human builds up enough info you become a target.
We are all ranked at a certain level of threat.
Burn phones are good for selling movies and helping the .gov agents cover their tracks. IMHO

The SIM card generates an IMSI, which is it's identifier on the network. However, the actual hardware phone has an IMEI, which can be queried by the network. The IMEI is typically associated with the person that purchased the phone.

So just changing sim cards in your phone will not necessarily hide your identity.

You would have to have a separate phone device bought in cash without getting spotted on camera. Never activate the burner at any location tied to you. Never have a second phone powered on close to the burner. Never call any number associated with you on the burner. Never check websites or emails on it that can be traced to you.

Do these things and you can remain anonymous until the burner becomes of interest OR you do.

Once they start looking it is unlikely you can go very long without slipping up.

Oh... and don't power off one and immediately power on the other. Best to have your phone doing your normal stuff somewhere else when you power on and use the burner.

from above:
"None of us are that important to need a burner phone..."

but.....
how about 2 is 1 and 1 is none?
we have more than one gun,
why not more than one phone?

agree with

if you have a SS#, but no smartphone (not flip, etc.),
you will be the first called for the implant. you know,
for verification to receive benefits from any gov program.

it will be similar to the Draft except not random.

I have a few burner phones that I know canā€™t be traced. They Both have the highest security level you can get. I believe they are from another country though since all I see on the back is
Approved by: NSAFBICIAATF
think that might be in Europe but Iā€™m not sure.

I make it a point to snatch up any abandoned phone i see in the lost and found... battery has already run down and it won't be able to track me storing it at home.
plus, the battery runs down in a public place where a few hundred people a day could have claimed it as their own.

I'm also fine with leaving my own phone at home from time to time.
The stuff about getting tracked through traffic camera lights is kind of a myth. those are run by private companies and they don't always share data with police - just ticket info.

not like i'm planning anything, i just talk to people and learn things in a very academic "if i was going to.... how would i?" sort of way

These things are wonderful for selling vehicles/stuff. Sell the car, trash the phone, keeps the scammers and trash from having your real number.

You'll be happy to know that Fayetteville recently got a number of license plate readers to position around the city, which are monitored by people at Fay PD.

hah. i'd seen a lot of new gear going up this last year or so... i figured it was a police state thing.
i'm thrilled to learn this.
Though keep in mind that fayetteville police are not allowed to chase, so if you have a blocked out license plate, they have no way of knowing who you might be.
