"Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced Friday a freeze on handgun sales and transfers.

The handgun freeze, which went into effect Friday, outlaws sales, purchases, and other transfers of handguns between individuals. Additionally, no foreign handguns may be brought into the country from abroad."

Anybody with a brain stem and a pulse knows that their excuse that this is about crime and protection is full of it. It's just incrementalism towards a disarmed populace being at the mercy of an armed state. History is full of those examples, and the people should have told their "rulers" to get bent a long time ago.

Those truckers scared them the same as Jan 6 scared DC.

"Handguns are the weapon of choice in most firearm-related crimes"

Huh, here in the US they would have you believe it's "assault weapons". But since they've already been pretty much banned in Canada, this was the next logical step. Now they can move on to confiscation. They'll let them keep their shotguns and hunting rifles for now, but they'll be along for those shortly.

I wonder how/if they’ll be arming their police and armed services. I don’t recall them fielding Canadian made arms.

Regretfully there’s approx 1/2 the population that truly believes that passing more laws restricting ownership will actually help the issue and that no one needs/should own guns unless they’re hunters.

Actual quote from a liberal friend earlier today:
“Yeah i wish anyone spotted with a gun in public could get shot at will by police officers”

Yeah, well that's why we have concealed carry. ;)

I hope this extreme action doesn't stir any activity on our side of the border. But, I know it will. And it's going to create a deepening divide in the country. The clock is definitely ticking.

I've always thought that the Canuks were a socialist/leftist bunch anyway. Screw 'em. I was thinking of a waterfowl hunt next year up there but I think I'll make other arrangements.

You NEED new friends.

Respectfully disagree. Not that I like his views but society is becoming an echo chamber driving us further apart. Axing friends cause they don’t align with your views isn’t helpful, I’ve known him since his dad was our first grade tball coach.

That aside I have conservative ones in the same discussions, it’s enlightening to see the various perspectives though we all tend to post inflammatory stuff fairly regularly.

Your conservative friends are less likely to report you during the disarmament as a dangerous armed individual for a pat on the head from the ATF.

Any "friend" of mine is going to eventually run into my guns. Whether it be because they come over and see my projects laying on the table or because they hear the thump when i drop my pants and the gun hits the floor. They better get good with things because I'm staying the way I am, and I'd rather not subject myself to people who are that dangerous to my safety.

This guy is expressing ignorance to the degree that I question whether he should even be allowed to vote. He is a prime example of why the founding fathers put restrictions on who could vote to ensure that those who did had proverbial skin in the game and understood the importance and ramifications of their actions. It's a real problem in this failing empire that stupid people's ignorant opinions are given equal weight and consideration in matters that effect things like the exercise of fundamental rights. We are not a democracy (democracy being one of the worst forms of governance) and rights are not subject to popular opinion of even the majority.

I don’t disagree in theory though he was being intentionally inflammatory as also happens frequently on here. But while I see what you’re saying, they also put in mechanisms to change the rights you seem to imply are absolute in our government. They can’t be both smart enough to protect an absolute right, and dumb enough to create a system for change. Which goes back to (frightening) half the country wants something opposite of us.

They'll end up like the UK with more knife attacks and assaults on good people.

That is true and it was a very wise thing to do on their part. It both acknowledges that they’re weren’t perfect and recognizes that things change. However, the bar to change the framework that was meant to construct the (federal) State is rather high, much higher than a majority vote even.

On top of that there is still the argument that the right to self defense exists outside of the State by virtue of one’s creator, whatever form you chose to believe in. By extension that right includes the tools to do so. Hence the 2A I but an embodiment of an inherent right that exists regardless of the amendment.
