A pal of mine bought one and when he took it apart to look around he discovered that the lower frame is all polymer. Most guns he'd ever seen have steel inserts that the slide rides on or gets guided by. This model has none at all, all polymer Is that a thing now? Any concerns about that?

Does anybody have this model? Is this a thing now?

I have two with a bunch of rounds through them. No issues.
Do ypu have this exact model? Anybody have any long term concerns with that setup? Did I miss the memo or is that a thing now?

According to the Canik website this pistol has successfully passed 60k round torture without failures and maintaining NATO accuracy.

After a quick google search it appears that the inserts are metal but may be coated with bit of plastic during the manufacturing process. Saw this on a Reddit post.

The Rival is the same way. If you look closely, you will see the mold lines on both the front and rear inserts where they are embedded. Wear on mine is virtually zero other than a few spots where the black finish is very slightly wearing through.

Are we sure about that?

There may be some residual plastic flash near them, and they are coated with either a nitride or melonite coating based on appearance, but its not a plastic coating.

No worries at all but they are metal. They are embedded as someone else pointed out.

I had the TP9SF elite. It did have metal inserts for the slide. It was a great gun all around. I wish I still had it. Run it clean it and repeat. You won't go wrong.

He paid 350 for it does that seem like a good deal?

Yes that seems right. I don't remember what I paid for mine. I traded it for an MC9 from canik. I think I got 350 for mine.

I have two of the SF models and they are awesome guns. I have probably 20k rounds through my first one. I changed the recoil spring at 15 k ,not because it was an issue, but just i figured i should. $350 is about what they cost new. I got my second SF new for like $279 i think but it was a special deal and only had one mag i think. Canik SF are excellent pistols. He didn't get ripped off.
