I have a Glock 19 Gen 5 I’m looking for a carry holster for… I’ve had a permit for years but never carried before because I’ve never had even a kind of compact pistol before. I recognize that I’ll probably end up with a drawer full of various options but do you have recommendations for what to try first?

Probably AIWB, wouldn’t mind being able to try strong side IWB too though. Think I’d prefer to start without an integrated spare mag carrier just for weight / bulk reasons (can always carry a mag in a pocket or get a separate carrier if I want a spare). Prefer not to spend ridiculous amounts but I also value a good holster (especially if I try appendix carry!).

Currently consider starting with a T1C Xiphos V2. Anyone have experience with those or suggestions of others to look at?

I really like a hybrid for everyday. I like those made by Theis Holsters. Carried at 4 oclock

I also like a kydex quick clip holster for throwing on real quick. Carried at 4 oclock or appendix. I don't love appendix carry, but it makes sense sometimes.

The answer depends very much on your physique- 6 foot 4 260 will have a different “better” holster option than 5 foot 8 and 260!
That said if you want to carry AIWB I would consider something that has one clip and is easy to get on and off.
I like OWB carry for my G19 just because I am 5-9” and 170 and it is way more comfortable.

I've experimented, as I am sure many others have as well, with countless holsters, styles, material, etc. Ironically, after all that money and time invested, I ended up really liking a cheap kydex single clip holster for my G19.

It really is such a personal preference, so I wish you luck with your search!

This is just my opinion. If you're going to most likely end up with a drawer full anyway, start by getting one from one of the guys on this forum that make them.

If you hate it, you can most likely resell it here and get some of your money back and at least you supported the forum while you searched.

Ive pocket carried for a while now so i can't speak on what's currently the hot thing. I agree with others in that it's a very personal and subjective decision. I hope you find something you like. Day to day comfort is worth quite a bit in my opinion. Best of luck.

Great call right there!

For AIWB, you’ll want a JM Custom Kydex holster with a mag carrier to help stabilize the rig. I’ve been carrying a G17 like this for years and it’s incredibly comfortable. a few of my JMCK setups below. I’m NEVER allowed comment to comment on my wife’s shoe collection…

Is there a list of links to current sponsors businesses somewhere? I see a thread with links to usernames, is that the official list?

QVO Tactical makes the best holster I’ve ever used. A little bit of a wait and not cheap, but comfortable and very well made. They also make AIWB models with a mag carrier if you’re into that.

Holsters are like shoes - no one shoe is good for all activities, and everyone has a favorite.
I’ve carried a 19 on and off for a very long time. I have a Kramer OWB leather that keeps the gun tucked tight against my waist. Easily concealed with an untucked shirt. I have a hybrid IWB from concealment solutions.com
I tried an AIWB but it was a very early version that didn’t work that well and was uncomfortable.

I need to take my own advice and get one from each... maybe after the bathroom remodel debacle i got going on.

I found apedix carry to be my jam in summer. I love Spider Concealment holster but I'm not sure they ate still in business.

As previously stated, its all in personal preference. I could never get used to hardshell holsters like kydex, the hard plastic drives me crazy, so the only two IWB holsters I personally use and like, is my alien gear shape shifter, and the original tuckable by N82. One thing I like about my alien gear shape shifter is that I don't have to buy a separate rig for each of my handguns, you can swap out just the outer shell for a different handgun, ill attach some pics of the two holsters in case you haven't seen them but yea, those are the only two IWB holsters I use and they're the only ones I found to be comfortable. in the colder months though, a lot of times I will wear a shoulder rig underneath my coat. The top pic is the aliean gear shape shift and the bottom is the original tuckable by N82.

Tier 1 and Philster are good brands. I like the Kydex with the arm thingy that pushes against the belt. The world of holsters is yours to inherit as you use one of the most common guns around. I just bought three Eclipse holsters because Philster said they would work with the Enigma and Eclipse makes Canik holsters. Hard to find a good holster for Canik. You will not have this issue.

I'm a fan of T1C and Vedder. No real reason but I have at least 1 holster from both and they both ride comfortably AIWB. I think I like T1C slightly more, but there are other solid brands, I've heard only good things about Tenicor for example, but I haven't tried them personally.

N82 Tactical is the best holster I’ve experienced. They were a NC company but we’re purchased by Crossbreed in 2020. They still make the N82 holsters though (now made in MO).

Thanks for posting the link, I have been trying to find some more of their holsters but obviously their original site is down, best damn holster ever created!!

I've bought a new N82 holster since 2020--Eagle Guns in Concord has a large display. Maybe 18 months ago or so??? I haven't been in there since. But if they were acquired in 2020, it doesn't seem to have hurt availability. I was a little worried when I saw this news as N82 has always had excellent customer service. The older versions of their holsters had metal belt clips. I'd catch it on something once a year and bend it to the point of it not having any spring left, so it'd be loose. N82 would send me 3 or 4 new clips no charge every time. I've not had to deal with their customer service since being acquired though. Crossbreed better do them justice!

Yea Ive also had great customer service experiences with them as well. The awesome part about it though is that their holsters are so damn comfortable, I always use the original tuckable and its extremely comfortable, I can wear that holster IWB with one of my full sized 1911's and forget id even be wearing it. wouldnt print either

The vedder was mentioned, but I would give it a solid recommendation over a drawer full of others I have tried. It is nothing special about the kydex, bit the metal clip and range of adjustability for ride depth and cant is as good or better than anything I have found. It has allowed a g19 and 365 to be worn from appendix to 5/6 oclock.
