Curious, what’s the penalty if you carry where it’s posted no firearms. I know it’s out there but couldnt find it in the general statutes. Not advocating it, just couldn't remember.

My buddy says he carries everywhere he goes regardless. He says there is only one way they will ever find out he is armed And if he has to use it and then it doesn’t make any difference as being tried by 12 is always better than being carried by six.
Your buddy eh

It’s in this section.

You have to bounce around the linked page above to find all the parts.

§ 14-415.21. Violations of this Article punishable as an infraction.

(a) A person who has been issued a valid permit who is found to be carrying a concealed handgun without the permit in the person's possession or who fails to disclose to any law enforcement officer that the person holds a valid permit and is carrying a concealed handgun, as required by G.S. 14-415.11, shall be guilty of an infraction and shall be punished in accordance with G.S. 14-3.1. Any person who has been issued a valid permit who is found to be carrying a concealed handgun in violation of G.S. 14-415.11(c)(8) shall be guilty of an infraction and may be required to pay a fine of up to five hundred dollars ($500.00). In lieu of paying a fine the person may surrender the permit.

(a1) A person who has been issued a valid permit who is found to be carrying a concealed handgun in violation of subsection (c2) of G.S. 14-415.11 shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

(b) A person who violates the provisions of this Article other than as set forth in subsection (a) or (a1) of this section is guilty of a Class 2 misdemeanor. (1995, c. 398, s. 1; 2011-268, s. 21(a); 2013-369, s. 16; 2015-195, s. 9.)

My friend agrees with your buddy.

Appreciate it and got it. Reality is you’ll probably be asked to leave. Possibility exists for infraction. Don’t mess with schools and courthouses. Don’t really plan to, but nice to know I’d between a rock and a hard place.

Just doubly (triple-y?) confirming that GENERALLY speaking it's viewed as trespassing.
INL, the way it could be interpreted is...

The signage is against carrying the weapon, not the person entering. Once in, you're breaking the law and most likely asked to leave. Worse case, you’ll be charged with carrying where not allowed (not for trespassing).
When asked to leave, and you don't, then the trespassing and also the illegal carry. Trespassing has its own rules, charges, etc.

GRNC almost had private property taken completely out several years ago. It would have been like “no shirt, no service”, and if you didn’t leave, it would be Tresapss after Warning, but not a gun charge. Then the NC Retail Merchant’s Association sent their lobbyists to Raleigh, and so the compromise was to make it a $500 ticket with no impact on keeping your permit.

I have never heard of anyone getting such a ticket as a standalone charge, just when they did some other stupid thing like brandishing or threatening someone.

Random aside, how about post offices? For some reason I was thinking they were prohibited federal property, but realized recently that there’s nothing posted on them.

The post office I go to does not have a metal detector at the door.

Remember that the posting must be conspicuous. I’ve seen postings, but none that I would call conspicuous. Early on when the change was made, I recall there being discussion about the term not even being legally adjudicated.

That's why i always walk in behind somebody else, so i can't see any door stickers. they open the door for me and i can't read the sticker from the edge...
kidding.
kind of.

My friend says the same thing. He also doesn't have a CC permit for the same reason.

"As I understand the law, it is a crime to possess a firearm and drive up to the big blue mailbox at a post office parking lot."

There's not a jail big enough....

My good friend, Eduardo, also says the same thing and refuses to get a permit for the exact same reason.👍

federal law lists the entire building, but current law includes the parking lot. If it's a large strip mall type place, technically the entire lot is off limits. So if you are already doing one felony just by going to the dollar store or getting groceries...

Exactly.

So it should be considered by those who get a CC permit mainly because they want to be law abiding citizens, that breaking the law is breaking the law.

Mala prohibita= mala in se'?

I think we all know what the solution to this conundrum is.
