Supposed to be a nice Saturday , so planning on doing some fishing right off the Albemarle Sound tomorrow. Boats all ready and decided to try my hand at some catfish. Normally I don't target Catfish but I read that Catfish like stinky bait. So I took some old sea trout out of freezer and chunked that up and added some oriental fish sauce along with some veg oil and its now sitting in the fridge till tomorrow. Now,, that fish sauce sure did make it stinky, so much so my two out door cats came running into the garage jumping onto the counter and were fighting me for the stinky stuff. Hope it works for the cat fish as it did for the yard cats..

I have always used chicken livers and seemed to have always been successful AND, not nearly as stinky! The upside: Had delicious fried chicken at the end of the day AND delicious fried cat fish!

Chicken livers and hot dogs have been pretty reliable. Have heard of sunning the livers a few days but never bothered. Good luck.

I actually just got a pack of chicken back in October after seeing it on a video. Regular non cooked chicken works and it does not stink. It worked quite well and stayed on better.

I had some stink bait and its so bad it wont come off of your hands. Smells like #2

A trick I learned was to wrap livers with thread. Just make several wraps around the lure and over lap a few times to hold the bait on. @Lager are you going for saltwater cats.

I spent a lot of time night fishing for catfish on the Verde River upstream from Bartlett lake near Phoenix. Used livers one night, got tired and rubbed my eyes. Two days later I had 4 infections in the left eye, 3 in the right. 10 days after that 6 of them drained all at once while i was at work, I was "crying" puss from both eyes. One had to be difficult and required minor surgery to drain.

Good times.

Wear nitrile gloves when putting your bait on, saves problems with momma when you get home.

Live brim or crappie, feed them what they eat naturally

Chunks of above

Uncooked chicken

Shrimp left out in the sun a couple days

Slim Jims and hot dogs

Chicken liver wrapped with a little thread (similar to wrapping barnacles with thread for sheepshead)

I use this stuff over at Village Point pond all year long. I like the Shad and Chicken Liver flavors.

Nope Fresh water,, the Albemarle Sound looks like it might be salt since its so close to the Ocean and I wish it was ? But its all fresh water here. Too bad too , salt cats taste a lot better.

Grind up Frosted Flakes in a blender until it’s almost like flour. Put it in a bowl and pour a little Budweiser in, mixing as you go. You want to end up with a dough that has the consistency of modeling clay.

Failed cookie recipe that ended up attracting catfish?

At the store once to get chicken livers for fishing I bought beef liver instead as it was on sale. That stuff it tough! Fought fish and changed my bait maybe once.

It's a lot easier on your boat than salt, that's for sure.

Every once in a blue moon during a drought the Albemarle will get salty. But when it gets really cold it'll freeze, which is quite a sight.

Whereabouts are you going to be? I'm passing familiar with the area.

I'm just over here waiting on catfish pics.....

Sorry to say,, not a darn thing.. Spent all afternoon soaking cat fish baits, another rod with Worms and a float and then another rod thrashing the water bass fishing with a rubber worm. Then the boat engine broke down AGAIN, luckily I was within trolling motor battery life distance back to the boat ramp. Yeah,, not a good day.
