Caught my first ...

Nice. We need to get a 2018 trapping thread going! Going to set some traps this week I hope!

I'm infested with em. About to drop a half dozen Bridger #2s on my new property down by the creek. Maybe I'll catch a few coons too.

It’s amazing how much damage a big coyote can do to a trap.
Bend the spring pins like pretzels, the dogs in circles and bend the pans up too.
Pull the jaws out of some traps.

Reinforcing things is a must.

Get a few k9 JR traps from no bs lures. They won’t mess them up. #BombProof

With my Bridger #2’s and #3’s, I weld the base plates, bubble tip the jaws, weld the j hooks and weld an 8 penny nail to the dog to reinforce.

The MB’s are tough but I have welded bigger pans to the existing pan. I absolutely love these traps.

How do you make the dog stay still while you’re welding on him?

Asking for a friend.

That's a fine trap. Not cheap.

No prior trapping experience but I've developed a interest in taking a shot at it and tanning hides. A quick search indicates a trapping license is a $30 add to my sportsman license. I could start with coons in the back yard and I think the game lands are also open to trapping, I've seen yotes there.

Any pointers for a guy that wants to learn or if anyone is near to Hendersonville that would be willing to let me tag alone?

Try and locate a nuisance trapper in your area. If you do, express your interest in learning to trap. Sometimes you can locate them through a local game warden. That would be a good place to start IMHO.
