My wife got me away from starter fluid on the grill decades ago. While it galled me to no end that she denied me my pyromaniacal dues at the time, I must admit it's better on the food. Especially with the amounts of starter fluid I tended to use.

For years we used those Weber chimneys.

But not any more.

She picked up an Oklahoma Joe's chimney starter and this thing is the best I've ever used. Probably because this bugger is broader and much better ventilated.

It wasn't unusual to have to stuff extra paper/cardboard under the old Weber to get it going. Not so with the Oklahoma Joe's. One wad of paper and that's it! The charwood takes right off and minutes later it's ready.

My wife went out to buy another, because the grill is big enough it takes two if you want to completely cover the bed without going through the trouble of adding more to the starter pile.

She brought back two more. Sometimes I have no idea what goes through her head (OK, most of the time), because there's no room in the grill for three of these things.

My first chimney was a generic from Walmart. After I drilled more holes in it, it worked better. It didn't last very long before it rusted out. I replaced it with a Weber and I've used it for several years now. If you keep them out of the rain they will last a lot longer.

The Oklahoma Joe is shorter and wider which would make the charcoal ready to dump a little quicker.
