I sold off my nice mig welder back more than a few years ago and now in need of another cheaper version for some exhaust system work. I look on Amazon and e bay and there are an endless amount of cheap flux core welders and I was wondering if any of you DIY guys have one that you could suggest? I'm looking at installing an exhaust system on the C4 Corvette and all it has to do it light gauge metal. I'm looking for something with wire feed speed and current adjustability in the less than $200 range. This is probably going to be a onetime use welder since I'm stinking old and this C4 project car is the last bang.

If we can work it out with the cff train you are welcome to use my Lincoln 3200hd for what you need to do. I can even send a bottle (currently empty) if that helps. But have no useable wire at the moment

I actually have this now..... @Lager you are welcome to it anytime....I just installed a new gun and ground clamp....hell I have some new flux core wire we can load up in it!

Why not borrow or rent one from a member. You’re in ENC; Alan (1911GoBang) has a Miller 130 that I sold him a few years back that he might rent to you.
I also have a Chicago Pneumatic (Harbor Freight) wire feed if flux core will suit you. And a Miller Bobcat if you need stick welding.

I just read the OP. You are welcome to my flux core machine as long as you need it. I have a couple spools of .030 flux wire, too

Just use a coupon and get the cheapie Chicago Electric 170 amp MIG/FCAW welder from HF. Nothing will really be better than the others at that price point, the difference is at HF if you get one that's DOA you can just swap it out, and at least you'll be able to get parts/consumables for it.

First of all I want to thank everyone for their responses and especially those that offered to loan me their welders ( that really was nice) but you know what ? I've been a mechanic for pert near 50 years, well ok more then 50 but the last 2 were part time on my own stuff. But, anyways, I never borrow tools, tools are a personal thing. Now I don't mean a 10 mm wrench, but a specialty tool like my DVOM or scan tool or my old welder ? If you need a tool, go buy it and its yours for life and treat it like you want to. To me , tools are are kinda like your favorite hot rod you built or your Motorcycle or even your wife ? If you loaned then out for someone else to use, they come back not quite feeling the same . So if you offered to loan me your welder, I thank you but I'm gonna have to pass. Right about now my head hurts, I've been researching welders and I figured out that I want a mig that can be used with or without Gas and converts to TIG also. I built a few race cars in the past and it was all Mig welding but TIG really interested me so I've been watching lots of vids on how to TIG weld and researching lift Tig machines that really are inexpensive and I know , you get what you pay for. But, I gotta tell you , I love the smell of melted metal first thing in the morning.

I started with a cheap tig with no heat control, just on off. Don't do do it. Get one with heat control at the pedal or switch.

No if you just have to have a cheap one with no heat control, I've got my old one that doubles as a decent stick welder for sale.

If you just need a scratch start TIG, I would just get a cheap DC stick welder. Honestly, you’ll find that you never use it.
