I wanted a cheaper way to shoot drills with my AR-15. I spent the money and purchased a CMMG 22LR conversion kit with 3 magazines. I took it out to day, sighted it in and ran some drills. I put about 200 rounds through it today. All I can say is, why did I wait so long to get one. I didn't have any problems, all rounds fired. I sighted in for 25 yards and shot a few 1 inch groups. I then ran some basic drills on steel at 10 to 25 yards. There is just about zero recoil, but it's all the same controls and manipulations. I think I'm going to get a few more magazines and give this set up a try at steel challenge.

They are a great training tool. But the real advantage, they are a hoot to shoot cheaply.

I shot mine Saturday in a zsa match, ran great, a fine .22 rifle. I have 6 Black Dog mags and a McFadden .22 loader. Fast to load-fast to unload.

Just ordered one of these from Primary. I’ll toss it in one my beater ARs for now but I think I’ll be building a dedicated upper for it sometime soon.

there are great, I have had one for awhile and practice with it at least once a week with kit on to get the training without the ammo cost. I put together a whole kit for my wife (plates, rig etc) and she uses the 22lr and we can train together, fun for her.

So I bought mine just intending to put it in one of the uppers I already have for some cheap shooting and as usual, this is gonna turn into a full project, as I think a dedicated upper would be better for this that just putting it in a 5.56 one.

Looking at doing a 9in CMMG barrel with the collar, and a 12in hand guard, so my Oculus can be tucked up inside it.

I have one I got specifically for training with a BFS3 binary trigger. Works great and really saves the $.

Been playing with this all weekend in a 16in AR since my dedicated barrel isn’t here yet. It’s out for delivery right now so I should be able to get a report back on that this coming up weekend.

So far I have 650 rounds of Federal Automatch through it but I have ordered a variety of different HV .22 flavors to see it if likes one better than the other.

No accuracy testing yet, this was just plinking at random rocks and whatnot out in the desert. The break-in was interesting…..first mag of 25 rounds did not cycle a single shot, I would have to pull back on the charging handle each time. Next mag was quite different. Shot most of the rounds in 2-3 round bursts….third mag was pretty much all semi with a couple bursts.

Took it out again the next day and shot a couple hundred more. This time is was sporadic bursts every now and then but mostly all semi auto. Yesterday I took it out again and put 400 rounds through it and it function all of them perfectly (all semi auto and no malfunctions).

I bought my son one of the new CMMG kits and, like you, he has had no problems at all with it! Being the old guy, I am still using the US M261 which also works great but the magazine inserts only hold 10 rounds 😕

I've got one of those made by Atchisson in the original box (06-11-1973) in my desk.

Reactions: Me.
Got my new upper built a couple weeks back and so far I have about 600 rounds through it. Went with a 9in CMMG barrel and 12in hand guards. So far this thing has been awesome, probably my new favorite thing to shoot. I have shot a mix of 36gr, 38gr, 40gr and 45gr in various brands and bullet types and haven’t had a malfunction yet. Even cycles the 45gr subsonic just fine.

Just did a quick sight in with an sig red dot I put on it and was faulty consistently hitting 18in steel plate standing offhand at 100 and 200yds. Sorry no pics since the current configuration may or may not be exactly on the up and up..😉🤫

If you want to use the S&W M&P 15-22 mags in the conversion look up better mag. I believe brownells sells them. The 15-22 mags are way better than the mags from cmmg imo

They work with the CMMG with no modifications needed?

The mags that come with the cmmg kit have a last round hold open from the follower. When you remove the mag the bolt drops. Think AK style. The better mag allows the bolt catch to work as normal so you change mag then drop bolt so training is same and the 15-22 mags are superior anyway
