My first CMMG rotary bolt .45 pistol upper build used a DPMS Slabside upper as I had used them in several previous .45 builds and liked the slickside look and thicker walls, never cared for the bump, forward assist or door. I did have to enlarge the ejection port to work with the cmmg bcg while there was no problems with the Olympic Arms ejection. But they don’t make them any longer. I was forced to use a Stoner upper from midway on the cmmg long bbl .45 upper build. Worked great as it’s got a huge ejection port. I’ve ordered another stoner upper to replace the dpms upper. Should be here this week. Will be an easy swap. The reason I’m doing that is to rob the slabside upper for another build, my very long term Lewis gun/ ar project [semi]. I recently found a few more Lewis pieces to tinker with. Milled this piece of teflon, the rounds are one notch off. Trying to get the pan to rotate, index correctly and drop a round. We’ll see.

Got the Midway Stoner upper installed on my .45 pistol upper. Been playing with the Lewis drum and pawls.
Finally got around to checking my Stoner pistol upper today. Ran as good as it did before. I love how I can move the Burris Fastfire from either upper and keep on ringing steel.

Shot the short bbl cmmg pcc in a zombie match Saturday. Ran fine except for the last stage where I had a rd set back into a case and a sticky mag follower. Need to junk that mag. Shot pretty good and had a good time but ran out of ammo on the last stage. Brain got eaten. They didn’t get much. Carried 140 rds. Next time il carry 200.

Just tried my 8 inch CMMG rotary upper on my CNC lower that is set up for my Olympic Arms blowback upper with a heavy buffer rig that I made and was really surprised when my loads cycled it just fine. I just assumed the rotary upper wouldn’t run the gun. Just a very easy cycle, double taps will be easy. Don’t know why I’d never experimented with it before. I’ll try again tomorrow on some cardboard. Then I’ll be set for John Z next month. I’ll do pix then.

Shot John Z’s match saturday, 43 shooters, a very nice day. We shot 5 stages, 120 rds+-. I was the only guy shooting a .45 pcc. I didn’t have to shoot that many rounds as I was using ‘heavy metal’. There were other pcc shooters. Shot the match clean somehow and came in exactly in the middle. Not bad for an old man. Had a bum mag give me a couple ftf on stage 5. Lots of steel, I like to shoot steel. Used this cmmg build with a 16 inch barrel, I had a very good time.
Oops, Forgot to mention that I really liked the red-white-blue/ little box-big box/ big steel-smaller round steel- very small square steel 30 rd stage.
