For you home coffee gurus…which coffee, espresso, latte, all in one machine is worth the $$?

Edit: I currently use a percolator , so save the “manly men do it this way…” sentiments.

Edit Edit: I’ve been tasked with sourcing a gift, so…

You can use a mini French press to foam your cream for latte or cappuccino types as well. If I want to get espresso-ish, a Moka pot does the job.

Jura makes a good countertop automagic machine. it's not cheap but it's good.

I have had a Jura for 7 or 8 years, it is consistently good. I don’t use it for steaming milk though, too much effort to clean, I use a Breville heater/frother that is miraculous.

Bodum 48 ounce coffee press.
Cuisinart burr mill grinder
Cuisinox stove top espresso maker.
A temp controlled water kettle. (200 for coffee, 170-212 for various teas)

Getting an all in one means replacing the whole thing if one part goes bad.

You know, when people start talking about "machines" for making coffee, we've really over complicated things.

Yeah...a simple percolator is, in fact, a machine. But it ain't much more than a hot water maker used to soak bean grindings.

Coffee: ground coffee beans and hot water.

Simple...and easy to clean!

Of course...buy what you want.

When the wife says, “I want to get so-n-so a fancy all in one coffee/espresso thing, can you take care of that?”, what I want doesn’t really enter the conversation.

It really depends on quite a few factors. Budget, whether or not 'all-in-one' means grinder as well, how coffee-interested/experienced the person is who you're getting it for.

Espresso is its own world in coffee so I mainly roast for pour over, but from what I've seen youre looking at $400-500 for a true espresso machine with a steam wand.

James Hoffman is one of the best coffee experts out there. He has a YouTube channel with reviews of budget espresso machines that would be worth checking out.

You got that right!

My Mr Coffee makes coffee AND tells me the time!

But, seriously, I think my mom has a ninja or something and it does frothing, makes coffee, makes this makes that...I dont know, more than Ive ever used at their house. But she loves it

We have the ninja coffee thingy. It does all the things but we generally use it for coffee. Works well for that.

Before anyone calls me Sally yes I can and do make it with a percolator over an actual fire on the side of a mountain....

Double boiler and rotary pump machine if going espresso route, and paired with a good grinder

With a good machine you’ll ditch all your other coffee appliances, you can make americanos when wanting “regular” coffee and have all the advantages of being able to steam and brew espresso for other espresso based drinks

Check out Lucca, ECM, Profitec

fair enough
it's also super handy to dump whole beans in one side and have espresso squirt out the front, with a puck of compressed used grounds auto-dumped into a bin.
i want one, but i really need to cut back on my intake as is
