Anybody have one? What’s your experience, and how would you compare it to a Smith K-frame? I’ve had a hankering lately, and the 3” model looks awful appealing. Fondled one at the LGS today, and it seems solid. What day you?

I posted this before in another thread, but I have an affinity for 3" revolvers, especially K-frame or smaller. L frames are just past the point of 'too bulky' for me, even though there's not a huge difference when measured.

That being said, I thought the 3" King Cobra was going to be my King of revolvers, as it falls between a J and K frame (and still hold 6 shots of .38/.357). Everything was perfect - except the trigger reset. I've counted FIVE audible clicks forward before being able to press the trigger again - HORRIBLE. For those used to short resets on plastic wonderguns, it may take a while to retrain yourself in letting the trigger go ALL the way out.

If anyone knows a gunsmith that can fix this - please post it or PM me. It is a huge disappointment. If you want a pic of it compared to other handguns, let me know, I may be able to rustle it up.

Are your hands giant or is the new king cobra nowhere near as big as the real one?

I think my hands are average (that's what SHE says, anyway). I don't have an older King Cobra, but I was under the impression that this was the same size frame.

EDIT: I just watched a YouTube video, said that the newer one is slightly smaller.

I’ve owned one. Very nice gun. Mine had a great action. Didn’t like the grips. Would have rather had the wood grips found on most 4” models. I would say it for tat with a K frame Smith. Whichever feels the best to you.

I have a new King Cobra. I hadn’t noticed the trigger reset being any longer than other DA revolvers, but boy does it have a nice smooth pull. It would be one of the last ones I’d part with. Finish is nice enough but not the same as the original ones.

When you release the trigger, does yours have all of those 'clicks' before it's fully reset? As previously posted, mine has 5, and if you try to press the trigger at any of the first four, the trigger won't budge. For me, this is a serious training issue as I am used to short resets on pistols.

I just now tried it, paying close attention to the reset. I can detect three faint clicks as I slowly release the trigger; the first one I can feel, the other two are barely discernible. I’d guess the hand resetting on the star and the mechanism resetting for the next pull. Never noticed the clicks when shooting. The length of the reset doesn’t seem (to my uneducated finger) any different from my SP101s or J-frames.

@Dan0311 ,
Mine has 5 clicks on the reset but I never paid any attention to them until you mentioned it. The reset travel is not terrible and those clicks on mine are pretty close together as to not really interfere with me but I do understand your issue. The pull is great from the factory.

Every current model of new Colt revolvers through here have The best DAs I have ever felt on a Colt...yes, I have owned Over 100...The SAs on evry one is The worst I have ever felt on a Colt...I have shown many folks on here....cock the hammer and you can manipulate the trigger and Watch the hammer Wiggle without falling....this on 7 New Pythons through here....Colt HAS to be aware of this. I have a new 3 inch one that is Engraved nicely with the same Crappy SA trigger.
Can I get a Witness???? Amen!!!! @Jeppo , @MacEntyre , @Etruett , @RaceRedGT and many others.....

I'm anxiously awaiting a new blued Python, King Cobra, or God willing a 45Colt Anaconda with 4.2" barrel.....

I’ve been thinking about talking to Jack Huntington about a 3” King Cobra 5-shot .41 Special.
If you pull that off, order 2!!!! I’ll take number 2.

He’s done at least one .41 Special Python & an employee of his I “know” from a different forum that said simply to call Jack & ask him. Didn’t come out & say it, but seemed like it wouldn’t be an issue. I know he’s done some pretty whacky 5-shot .480s & big .50s on mid frame Ruger Vaqueros.

The Python single action issue is known, since the lawyers made it happen to satisfy one or two northern states and kommiefornia for drop safety reasons. There are one or two gunsmiths that know how to fix the issue. Heffron Precision evidently gets good reviews for this particular work.
All three of mine have glitch. I shoot them mainly double action with +P handloads, and rarely notice it.

Finding a good .41 mag today is difficult. Keep me updated. I’m defiantly in, if you can make it happen.

I kept getting outbid on gunbroker so i woke up early and set out to find one in the real world.

Mace sports had the 3" new and the 2"with bobbed hammer on consignment. It looked as if it was never fired. I felt the trigger on both and agree that the double and single action felt good, but that reset was rough. Felt gritty and had those little clicks as it moved back into position.

If you just kind of raced the trigger forward after the break, you didn't notice it as bad. I Def think it would annoy me to have a $800-1000 gun that did that so i passed.

I have one identical and can attest to the trigger. I had a gunsmith work on mine and while he improved the DA slightly, the SA is still shitty. Simple cure. The Battery Oaks Custom Shop will gladly bob your hammer.067DFFA8-E9A9-4E67-9A33-69F1FE2355EC.jpeg
