So I'm lost when it comes to the AR platform but am buying a Colt M4A1 socom soon from a member on here. Was wondering how reliable are they? How does it stack up compared to FN, BCM, etc?

Why would someone spend $1200+ on a Colt when the Zion-15 is $800 and a PSA is like $500? I apologize for my ignorance in advance

I'm a bit confused. The other day you were saying you weren't a fan of the AR platform and were looking to trade some sort of AR-15 for an AK.

Golly, you've opened Pandora's Box now.... There are a metric crap-ton of threads about AR 'tiers' and what's better and what's not and quality this and customer service that.

I will answer your first two questions: Very, very reliable, and same league/comparable. Shoot with confidence.

You shouldn't have any issues whatsoever. Many of the features are personal preferences and can be changed out as desired. They are just as good as the FN, BCM, DD etc.. some better some worse depending luck of the draw and the exact model/features being compared or desired.
😈Quad rail = Master Race 😈

I'm really digging the look of the socom compared to the Gucci free-floating ARs out there

You’re are not going to Japan? Dude, I was looking forward to posts about all the food over there!

I have Zion 15 it is very nice. It’s very tight and the machining is great amazing. I have a Colt as well but they have become overrated.

The Zion is very impressive for its price point.

the M4A1 socom profile 14.5in barrel is arguably one of the most accurate barrels Colt has ever made. I have seen several over the years that are easily sub moa. Unfortunately, the Colt's still fetch a premium due to the name. Are they a $1200 rifle? No, not really. But that particular block 1 configuration is worth it for a factory AR if you are against building your own. Id take a socom colt barrel over any bcm barrel offerings these days.

M4gerys are a ton of fun and really practical for a lot of reasons. Quad rails heat up much less, are stupid rigid, and at the end of the day... A straight up vibe 🤣.

My current M4gery is rocking a FN CHF barrel, DD M4A1 rail (no fsp), ACOG, Sopmod stock, etc.

They can be a little heavier than more modern set ups, obviously, but nonetheless make for a great general purpose or "fighting rifle".

I'm a former AK guy as well, enjoyed my Arsenal and all that, but the AR is a vastly superior platform IMHO. Shoot the snot out of it and enjoy it!

Now you're making me want another.

Aside from weight, there is zero 'wrong' with a KAC or DD quad rail (or any other, really). For the 'but it's not free-floated!' crowd, you have a fighting rifle, not a sniper rifle. It does not matter.

Mine easily holds 1 minute 5 shot groups with nice 77gr loads 😁. Fantastic blending of durability and performance. Easily stretches it's legs out to 500 yards on C zone steel. I really do love that rifle!

That DD rail on the rifle in post 19 is drop in and free float. 😎

let's do a side by side run on the 'rifle stage' saturday.

You run it with gucci gear, I'll run it with my poverty setup.
Then we'll switch.

You want me to beat you with your own gun? 😂

All kidding aside, I don’t think that $500 dollar AR15s are necessarily inaccurate. They just aren’t as good as more expensive ones.
