As I’ve grown older I’ve learned to appreciate older craftsmanship. I’ve been blessed with my first two grandsons in the last year and a half. I have been on a kick since they were born to find them each something that will mean a lot to them when they get older. I’ve decided to try (😔) to find each one a Colt Single Action Army. I’d like to find second gens but older 3rd gens will work. I’m nowhere near a collector and Really don’t know where to start. Gun shops don’t have them, if gun shows do the dealers trade among themselves, I assume diehard Colt collectors know each other and have no problem selling or trading to each other thus never having to post one in classifieds. I guess what I’m wondering is where else would you look for this unicorn?
I thought about gunbroker but im Not that keen on buying firearms online. where are they hiding?

Thanks. I’ve called and talked with Phillip a couple times. That’s close to three hours one way to go look. that may be my best option.

I was just looking at the gunshow post seeing when the next one is! I have been to Hickory a few times. I like that one.
I usually stay home and off the roads the weekend after Thanksgiving but I may give it a shot. If I do how will I find you? Can I message you on here?

Thanks! Man I’d love a 1 Gen for sure. Ik they are really hard to find. I’d like blued 7 1/2” 45LC but 5 1/2 will work too. Just seems like the 45LC is what I think of when I think of those guns. Ik they made several other calibers. I like the Plain wood grips. The black plastic are neat but wood makes me think of the Wild West. I want them to remember History when they see them. Thanks for the info everyone!

Seems like a good place for this post I saw on another forum
"I was at the range and, at the station next to me was a father/son team. The young fellow, around 12 years old, was firing a Ruger Wrangler. He was taking careful aim and even more careful carrying out the reloading process. Dad would only offer advice when needed. Anyway, the kid had run out of ammo and was starting to pack up. I asked his dad if his son would like to fire a single action army in .45 Colt. "Sure," the dad said. So, I handed the young man my Colt with five already loaded. When he squeezed off the first round, he laid the revolver down and looked at his dad. I wish y'all could have seen the smiles on both of them! After he emptied the cylinder, the dad said, "Do you know what you've done." I replied, "Yes, sir, I believe so."

Man, that’s exactly the reaction I’m after when my grandsons get old enough to shoot…… I appreciate you passing this along. Beautiful!…..Still searching for a couple for them. By the way its going I’m glad I started when they were born. 👍

Yes sir. That’s as fair a price as you will find. Did you make the purchase? The drive for me is about 3hrs one way which isn’t horrible but you have to dedicate a day for sure!
Also, your Dads Colt is on another level, man that thing looks like one Wyatt Earp would have carried. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks....It's a three hour drive for me but Mid South usually has an excellent selection of new and used Colts and worth the drive. I'm torn between should I shoot it or keep it new in the box?

I know where there's a pair of Sheriffs models... 44-40 with extra 44 special cylinders...both in presentation cases.... last time I checked he was willing to take somewhere in the low $4k range.... Must be SC resident or ship through FFL...
