Is this the same finish that's on the Mustang? If so, anyway to repair scratches?

Yep, check my avatar picture. Mine's a combat commander though. If anyone wants to offer anywhere near what he is asking, let me know. I have two of them and they both would be gone in a second.

I’ve got one too, kinda wondered if I’d hit the lottery.

You guys have 3 lightweight commanders in colt guard?

Not to my knowledge, I think we’ve got Commanders in colt guard and were unaware of the value or scarcity of the lightweight commanders with it.

Welcome to the member’s side!

BTW, I’m curious if you’ve inquired about this gun over on the 1911 or Colt Collector forums? They aren’t great about valuations IMO, but they are hyper focused.

What @JimB said. Mine are both combat commanders. One is similar to yours in that it is pretty much like new in the box. The other one gets shot occasionally and is in pretty good condition but no box. I stumbled on both of them about 2 weeks apart around 10 years ago. Actually paid the same for each of them which was around $550 each.

I have never seen a lightweight commander in coltguard in person.

Thanks for the member welcome. That’s what most folks are hung up on. I know commanders were offered in coltguard, however, the lightweight version has very little info on it or knowledgeable records. In my discussions with Colt prior to getting a letter on the firearm they basically said it was highly unlikely for me to have the pistol I said I had. (Lightweight Commander in Coltguard). Of coarse, this was later verified with the lettering process. It was explained to me that it may have been a limited run on components that they had left over.

Some folks said it could have been a dealer sample? I’m not aware nor knowledgeable on that. I spoke with a gentleman that wanted to consign it for me stating that it would command a sizable price. North of what I’m asking for it here. I may choose to just hold on to it. It’s not eating anything.

That’s what I have been told by everyone I talk with. Local as well as national collectors.

I haven’t really thought about it, but I wonder if the process for nickel plating the aluminum frame turned out to be overly expensive or somehow problematic. E-plating would work, but perhaps what would otherwise be a minor ding or scratch on a plated steel frame would induce a form of creeping crud as the aluminum underneath oxidized.

Limited run on spare parts doesn’t make sense, it’s the finish on the frame that is unusual. As per my guess above, maybe a small run that then got cancelled before going into full production because of some problem.

Do wonder how many exist.

This^^^^^I have glass beaded a dozen or more and then shot them with satin Poly. They look Alot like the gun you have. I have a Combat Commander in the EN finish. I have been toying with glass beading the lower on my CCO to match the upper in finish.
