Apologies if this has been covered before, but I couldn’t find anything with the search function.

An ingredient in my Thanksgiving recipe is cognac, so I had to stop by my local ABC store today.

As a noob concealed carrier, I was wondering whether concealed carry is legal in a ABC store. Do they count as restricted State premises ? I found some old posts referring to stores in Durham that were posted “no guns”, which would indicate they are not restricted and it’s up to the county to decide.

Thanks !

All the ones here in Moore County area are posted on the door

I had to get some for my mother for a cake she is baking. I saw a no gun sign on the door but I don't remember if I had my gun on me or not. After you have carried for a while, you sometimes forget if you have it or not. :D

The stores are opetated by individual contractors so posting varies by store.

When you exit the car, unzip your fly, reach in and pull your scrotum out through your fly. Make sure only your scrotum is exposed, that way you won't be sited for indecent exposure...

So, you walk in, wave to any and all, do your shopping, pay your tab and walk merrily off to your car....

Everyone will zoom in on your eggs, whether they want to or not, so much so, that you could have a Desert Eagle taped to your forehead and no one will notice.

It works.

My local store in Locust isn’t posted.

Went in today to grab the Peppermint Smirnoff for my wife
You sayin it's a girl's drink?
Cause I tried some this year, and it's pretty good. Like if I ever felt festive I'd dress like a jolly ol elf and get puking drunk off that mouthwash and cocoa.

Eta: something relevant, pretty sure most of the Forsyth stores are posted.

Every one I've been in around Guilford and Randolph counties have been posted.

If it's not posted you are good. They do not fall under the provisions concerning alcohol, etc, because they are not establishments where alcohol is sold AND consumed. Nor are they listed in the various unlawful areas.

By the letter of the law you can carry open or concealed in them if they are not posted.

Note: not a lawyer, just another dumbass with an opinion :)

Hmm, interesting, I've never seen on NOT posted and I've been in ABC stores in the greater CLT area, Brevard, and Durham that I can remember. Guess it makes sense in those cities.

Great idea. I got all of it but could you suggest the best brand of tape?

My gorilla only carries long guns.

:D

Unless it has a statute number, carry on.

if it ain't posted I would think open carry is fine in a place where alcohol is SOLD but not CONSUMED. Concealed means it's hidden, so unless they're doing TSA nutsack patdowns, it would be really easy to forget to look on the door. I'm usually looking for sales and not much else.

One the sign has to be conspicuous (hint). Two, does the sold and consumed thing even apply anymore now that the restaurant prohibition was repealed? Three, ignoring a sign is now an infraction subject to a fine, not a misdemeanor and again the sign must be conspicuous.

The ABC in Orange County in the Carrboro plaza is not posted of all places. Don't recall if I saw a sign on the one in Chatham county I've shopped at.

You're sorry you asked,aren't you?:)

Not at all, this is good stuff ! My view on asking questions or responding on an open forum is (a) don’t be surprised by the answers, and (b) don’t get butthurt if someone doesn’t like what I’m saying. Snowflake-free zone !

Back on topic, the store in north Raleigh I went to yesterday was not posted.

I have never seen a gun buster sign on any building I have ever entered. Maybe I need glasses. Maybe its I don't give a crap.

And to answer the question of "Is it legal" the only places that are illegal to carry are clearly listed in the law concerning your CCW license. A gun buster sign does not make it illegal to carry in an establishment i.e. you cannot be fined or arrested.

They can ask you to leave their place of business. At that point, if you don't leave, you will be in violation of trespassing laws and can be arrested or fined.

Scofflaw. How dare you thwart the notions of the king and his decrees and agents

@Chdamn and all you rebels, I bet you're the kind of people that don't wear Hunter Orange on your own property and expect people not to shoot your asses.

LOL, believe it or not if I'm walking in any woods, mine or someone else's, during deer season I wear a blaze vest. I don't do it because I have to I do it because I cannot guarantee some ahole didn't sneak onto the property to hunt and the last thing I want to do is become a statistic.

All of them in Greensboro are posted, the one on Alamance Church Rd wasn't while they were remodeling but when they were finished they put up their little stickers.

You-know, I wonder whats posted over at @thrillhill house. He keeps guns and liquor in the same cabinet. I wanna be like him when I grow up.

The concealed carry permit law has a specific penalty for concealed carry on posted property.

§ 14-415.11(c ) ... a permit does not authorize a person to carry a concealed handgun in any of the following:
(8) On any private premises where notice that carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited by the posting of a conspicuous notice or statement by the person in legal possession or control of the premises.

§ 14-415.21(a) ... Any person who has been issued a valid permit who is found to be carrying a concealed handgun in violation of G.S. 14-415.11(c )(8) shall be guilty of an infraction and may be required to pay a fine of up to five hundred dollars ($500.00). In lieu of paying a fine the person may surrender the permit.

As a noob concealed carrier
Let me take the liberty of advancing you out of noob status and into “practical” status. Raise your right hand and repeat after me: “Concealed means concealed.”

Class dismissed.
