I’ve never been there, but the wife and I are staying in n Williamsburg Friday through Monday. I’ve looked online, and it says concealed carry is prohibited in Colonial Williamsburg. Is the whole town prohibiting CC, or certain areas? Has anyone visited there that could shed some light on this? Thanks!

Colonial Williamsburg is just a small section of the town, where the old buildings and tours are. When I lived in Williamsburg, CW was a few blocks wide by maybe a mile long....not good at judging that....but a small part of the whole city. I wasn't carrying then, so I can't say about the rest of the town. If I was to go there now, and it was legal to carry a gun in town, I would just leave the gun in the car, which I would park someplace NOT in Colonial Williamsburg proper, and walk into the touristy area, since you can't drive in CW, or at least not when I lived there. Sometimes you can park at William and Mary, which last I knew wasn't in CW.
Did I just confuse everything?
OR the Information Center might not be considered CW, park there, leave gun in car, take the shuttle to CW. In any case, have a good trip!

Basically, you can't legally carry on posted private property.

Colonial Williamsburg is a collection of properties owned by a private, non-profit organization. Colonial Williamsburg is located in the city of Williamsburg. Concealed carry is not prohibited in the city of Williamsburg, but may be prohibited by the owner of private property (e.g. Colonial Williamsburg).

I seriously doubt that all those old colonial style buildings are going to have metal detectors. Just saying. Then again, they do have air conditioning.

Oh, and please let us know what you see or find out.

Wow. Thanks for the clarification, I think 😵‍💫. Sounds nebulously clear that it’s not advised.

FYI, they do not. My first hand knowledge is 2 years old, but... As someone said before, concealed is concealed.

Wifes family has a time share there. I carried without issues the whole trip including in the colonial area. Conceal it and keep your shirt down and no one will be wiser.

Our colonial forefathers would probably kick us all in the nuts for even discussing this “ask for permission” type of subject.

”I seek permission from the throne to be able to defend myself and my family your royal majesty”

Want to talk about grey areas? I don't think any prohibition of CC would stand up to a challenge. CW is not gated or fenced off and is fully open to the public. The only time you need your badge is to get into one of the tours, programs, or living history areas. The green, main street, stores, and taverns are completely open to the public and you don't need a ticket.

I've been three times and was armed every time.

And go to the museum over by the college that's just off the property. They have an amazing firearms collection.

FWIW, Jamestown and Yorktown are worth seeing. If you like real history, the National park Jamestown. If you prefer museums and living history exhibits the private Jamestown is better. Get the audio tour for Yorktown.

And take your wife to Food For Thought for dinner. Just be very careful where you park and pay attention to the signs. They are not kidding about having people towed.

look at this doc. looks like accidentally entering private property that is posted is a trespassing charge not a firearms violation

In VA the no concealed carry signs do not carry the force of law except for schools, courts and Govt buildings etc.... They can ask you to leave if you are found to be carrying. If you refuse you can be charged with trespassing.

Do “No Gun Signs” Have the Force of Law? “NO” “No Firearm” signs in Virginia have no force of law unless they are posted on property that is specifically mentioned in State Law as being off limits to those with a Permit/License to Carry. If you are in a place not specifically mentioned in the law that is posted and they ask you to leave, you must leave. If you refuse to leave then you are breaking the law and can be charged. Even if the property is not posted and you are asked to leave you must leave. Always be aware of the possibility that responding Police Officers who may have been called without your knowledge and may not know the laws on trespass etc. could arrest you even if you are within the law

Here now. Fantastic! My wife raves, thus making the whole trip a success. Thanks!

You are welcome. And I'm jealous. It's rare that all 4 of us love a restaurant. We all loved that place.

The whole meal was terrific. Service was very good, and there was enough staff to keep up with the patrons - unlike most places we’ve eaten lately. Food was truly some of the best we’ve had in years.
