Concealed carry inside a car

I had a cop back in AZ in and around 92' unload my entire magazine and hand 18 rounds, the empty mag and the pistol back to me. I was speechless, good thing because what would have come out of my mouth would have certainly become a problem for me.
Pull out your spare mag and reload?

With a calm expression, I would have asked him why he did that. I would just like to hear his justification.

Late to the party, but I didn't realize how screwed up the wording is in this NCGS. Is this the way it should read? Not sure how the colors will show up.

(a2) This prohibition does not apply to 1) a person who has a concealed handgun permit issued in accordance with Article 54B of this Chapter, 2) has a concealed handgun permit considered valid under G.S. 14-415.24, 3) or is exempt from obtaining a permit pursuant to G.S. 14-415.25, provided the weapon is a handgun, is in a closed compartment or container within the person's locked vehicle, and the vehicle is in a parking area that is owned or leased by State government. A person may unlock the vehicle to enter or exit the vehicle, provided the handgun remains in the closed compartment at all times and the vehicle is locked immediately following the entrance or exit.
