I know we have a number of firefighters here on the page...so I found this video while cruising the youtoobs.

They do a slow motion capture of a backdraft. Shows, in a staged environment, how they are created and how large they can be.

Lucky for him because about one more step and the mask would have melted to his face. Had a friend whose helmet strap melted to his chin on a house fire call. Fire can be a scary thing when your close to it and the guy behind you on the hose is pushing up against you.

So, in keeping with the theme of dangerous things, would you rather face a backdraft situation or a man with a gun?? Chose carefully.....

I have made attacks on a couple of fires that were stage 3, smoke sucking back in the eaves, totally black windows, etc., and other warning signs, and recognizing the danger, no injuries, so I choose backdraft.

I've seen one in person. Got it on video but before digital vids, so never got it converted. It nearly caught the captain without his face un covered on a controlled burn. He was walking past the front door of the house when it happened. Took a while, but IIRC no one had introduced any accelerants at the time. So it apparently got a big shot of air between attacks.

In the fall we had a fire at work. While my driver and I were searching the 2 floor of a split level there was a smoke explosion in the basement area. Blew the door off the hinges. Was pretty cool to see we all thought maybe the ceiling had fell in.

What an awesome sight that was! Thanks for posting that. I wish I had been there to see and hear that.
