Evidently I ran across this 357 mag, 158gr, LSWCHP load data somewhere. It was taken from the Hornady Handbook 5th Edition 1996. I do not have a copy. I will be using HP38 instead of Win 231. The Win 231 data has the last four loads listed as, 5.4, 5.8,, 6.1 and 6.4 grains. This seems a little hot to me. All other (HP38) data I have found has 5.0 as a max load with this projectile but that is more recent data. I tested the HP38 5.0 grain loads but wanted to try a little more velocity to see if I could get the HP to expand. I loaded up (12) test rounds of 5.8 grains of HP38 under the 158 gr. LSWCHP but after a little more thought I decided that was a pretty big jump from 5.0 gr. My plan now is to drop back to 5.2gr. and work up to 5.8gr.charge. I wanted some opinions from those in the know about this data. Do you think working up towards 6.4gr. of HP38 is a bad Idea? Anyone have a copy of the Hornady 5th Edition that could look up this data? It may be 357 mag rifle data which is what I expect. Being as the data is from 1996 it may seem hot because of the change in pressure gauging. I got lucky today. The 5000 Cheddite shotshell primers I ordered back in January for $29.99 a hundred where shipped to me. Not too bad at today's prices. They are $37.00 a hundred right now.
