I am looking for some course black pepper other than what you normally find in the grocery store to season meat when smoking. I have been buying those little bottles but they do not last too long. Any recommendations?

Les, those look good but not sure I would want to run them through a grinder. I saw a video where she put some whole corns into a frying pan and took a pot and crushed down on them. I an thinking even a course grinder might grind them finer than what I want. Again, I am new to this.

FWIW, I've been using a dedicated Braun coffee grinder to grind up peppercorns for 10 years.

In the past I used a traditional grinder hooked to a cordless drill, which worked well, but the grinders didn't stand up to that kind of abuse.

I've also used a mortar and pestle, but that's a lot of work for the volume of pepper I use.

The electric coffee grinder works great. I tend to shake and rotate it while it's grinding to keep everything in motion and I find I get a more consistent grind. You can grind as coarse or as fine as you like - give it a few seconds, check your work, add more seconds until you get the results you want. Eventually you'll be able to tell where you are by the sound. For table pepper I turn the stuff into powder then run it thru a screen to get out the few missed chunky pieces.

He ground up his fine, just don't go so long.

Pepper and coffee are similar in that the fresher the grind the more flavor it has. Whatever device you use, ground pepper in a jar just doesn't compare to pepper ground a minute ago.
