I have a group of freinds who pretty actively coyote hunt. I purchased an ATN Thor 4 thermal 2-8x 386 (used) and put it on a PSA 18" 6.5 Grendel. It plants them. At 100 yds, it puts a fist size exit hole. We also use the Bogpod tripods. So went to a new spot yesterday that a farmer called us about where he had a few calves lost. So the first one was a big male, he weighed in at 40 lbs+, then the two other stands were two smaller females. Place is eat up with them, and the farmer was happy. The video on the second stand looks wierd, we had to move to get a clear shot away from the cows, the Recoil Activated Video records 5, 10,15seconds before and after the shot, so it picked up the move. She was just standing among the cows, and we had to shoot fast. She was about 125 yds. The big male in the first stand was about 100 yds, , and the last stand was about 100 yds. All of those vids are without any magnification.

How long was it before you found out you shot the neighbors dog?

God, that is always in the back of your mind. If you are a little seasoned, you can pick that "trot" out easily. But they were talking about a "farm hand" that got a little antsy and shot the farm dog by mistake. We always start out with an interrogation howl, and usually domestic dogs will stay away from that. And we ask, do you have dogs out here roaming around?

I'd love to use my 18" 6.8 on some song dogs. The 90gr TNTs & 120gr SSTs oughtta be pretty gruesome on a 'yote.

Good stuff, man. Jealous. 'N thinking about getting into night vision...

We’re you using any call? The 1st video had a slight call sound. I have heard a distressed animal call will get their attention quick ... distressed rabbit is a popular one.

What exactly is so suspect about them? The sound is kinda off on the videos, but otherwise seems OK.

How about some pitchers, maybe thst will help. All that new fangled hunting equipment gotcha triggered? :):):)

Yeah. Well. I got it used, and we stock ATN at the shop, so my boss didn't pay retail to begin with. It was a sticker shock, but I do go about twice a week, year round.

Yeah. It's called a Lucky Duck. Hit the howl a few times get them Interested, and they roll in on the distressed rabbit, usually. Thst is exactly what you heard. First stand had thst big male on the ground in less than 10 mins. The second within the hour.

How do you get them to stop walking/running? Usually when I spot them they are on the move and don’t stop for a shot.

usually they are coming into the call. When they get close, and something is not right, or they stop because they see you , or smell you....its too late. Sometimes you can "woof" at them and they will stop to see what made the noise.

Dude, are you accepting applications for a water boy and gun caddy? I’m willing to “work my way up”. For that matter, also willing to “work my way down” if ya knahhhh sayin.

I’ll be the best damn gun caddy you ever had. Your guns will be so damn shiny and clean you will need to wear sunglasses on your night shoots. All I ask, is that you pay me in slaying coyotes.

@Sneakymedic quick question on your Thor 4, after getting some use behind it? I have a 1-10x 640 model and the magnification gets me. Seems like it is all digital zoom and gets extremely pixelated after 3x. I don't get why they advertise as a 10x at this point. Then again it could be the operator also.

No, I understand the equipment it;s the "dot" that has me a little confused. When the trigger pull moves it at the shot that usually results in a miss but not with your crazy good skills. No matter where it jerks to it still hits, amazing....

Totally agree. It is frustrating. I hardly ever zoom, just because of the pixilated image. I shot at my home range at 150, and if I try to zoom it in, the hot hands looks like a 5' around blur. Not very helpful.

You can also make a scent pit stop. Get some entrails from a butcher shop or such and wrap them in cheese cloth a couple days before your hunt. Store them in Ziplock baggie in the fridge and let them get all juicy. A couple hours before dusk take and drag the cheese cloth and entrails in 2 to 3 foot circles in areas you believe the yotes will be approaching from ... maybe 20-25 yards apart ... you can mark the distances from your hide to make ranging easy peasy. As the yote approaches cut the calling as it approaches the scented circle and most of the time they’ll hit on the scent and pause. You have at least a couple seconds hopefully at a known distance.

If you don’t want to mess with the entrails you can use the store bought stuff like yote urine lure or such. I’ve even heard of people using a couple small pieces of Alpo Chunky dog food to catch their brief attention at the pit stops. As long as it is a scent that they’ll catch it should be good for that couple seconds you need.

One of the guys we hunt with works at a local butcher shop. They kill cows and hogs for people. He gets guts and we bait occasionally. Make 5 gal gut popsicles. ew.

I really enjoy your videos . My Sweetie has a chicken farm and we have an 80x40 liter shed we put the crap in between flocks . On one side there are eight 10x10 stalls . We compost dead birds in them . I put power on the side with the stalls and mounted a low wattage light over one of the stalls under the overhang . I have a 25 ft camper about 30 yrds from the corner of the litter shed . I put two driveway alarms on the posts between the posts 3 stalls apart . The alarms are two different kinds so there are two different tones . That way I know which way the yotes are coming from . I lay in bed and read before I go to sleep . If the alarm goes off while I'm sleeping I turn the monitors off , open the window and BOOOOMMM !!!! I killed the ninth one last night that way at 2 am .

Sorry for the cuss words on one of the vids. My buddy made a bad shot and it didn't go down immediately. We tried to finish it off quick. I also have to get the sound thing figured out. But it makes for fun vid to watch.
