Any one ever had the crock in their crock pot mold? I pulled it out this morning after not using it for over a month and found this. Even after washing it with bleach before storing and allowing it to dry for a couple days before it was put in the cabinet, this still happens.

It looks like the glaze on the surface has crazed and the mold grows in the micro cracks. Even has it on the outside of the crock. I saw on line where some companies replaced the crocks, but I contacted Crock Pot a while back and they responded that they no longer make crocks for this model and that we should buy a new one. New similar one is about $50. I think we might just trash it and do without a crock pot.

I cleaned it off and you can't see any visble cracks in the glaze, they must be very fine. I can't understand hold the mold can come back after using bleach on it.

I'm not going to use it, got the big stock pot out instead. We are going through our chest freezer and cooking old meats for the dogs.

wife goes through crock pot liners almost as fast as she goes through toilet paper
it definitely makes cleanup easy, so i assume it would work the other way around just as well.

Most likely, with the ceramic being porous, the cracks have allowed moisture to get deep into the pores which enabled mold/fungus to grow. It likely keeps coming back because your not killing the fungus deep inside the ceramic, only on the surface.
