I have a Dan Wesson 357 from the 80's Serial # 240xxx. Can this gun take a steady diet of 357 Mags? Not looking to overpressure, but I want to handload a 158gr bullet to max published load info for hunting deer and back up for pigs.
I have never understood the need for a lesser weapon (handgun) to "back up" a primary weapon (rifle/shotgun)
Reload the primary and continue....
Assuming you're separated from your rifle, he isn't...As the saying goes, a handgun is what you have on you at all times so you can get to your rifle.

And we have witnessed it first hand in Dunn. I wouldn't have had a clue what happened had you not recognized it standing there in broad daylight.A backup is for the times when the Angel of Fate pisses in the frizzen of your flintlock. When your primary won't run or can't be quickly brought back into the fight.

Geeze..... some of you guys..... Tell the truth now, when was the last time you stood before a "pissed off hog" with ANY gun in your hand?? When was the last time you even SAW a hog outside the grocery store??
Woah for a second I thought we were talking about 357 dan Wesson loads.
Good thing you good people put us back on the right track.
God forbid if we went on a tangent.
Most people use rifle primers in magnum loads.Yup, kinda got off track....
Here's my go to 357 load.
-Winchester brass
-CCI 450 primer(yes, I know it's a rifle primer)
-Hornady 158gr. XTP
-16gr. H110 powder
-crimp with Lee FCD
This is .7 below Hodgen's max load, but still 1150-1175 fps in my 6" Ruger, and very accurate. I use 450 primers because my 6.8 and .223 also use them, and it keeps things more simple. I worked up to this load with rifle primers, and advise anyone else do the same.

I use em in my 454 casull loads.
The burn the powder more complete in the shorter barrels and handle the pressure better. Don't feel like you're weird
I sometimes even wear a seatbelt. And have homeowners insurance, and a fire extinguisher.
I stood before a pissed-off hog just the other day inside an Ingles grocery store.....I distracted her with an open bottle of YooHoo and a sack of HotFries as I clambered over the shelves and made my getaway with no shots fired....Weapon on my hip?? 4" DW M15 full lug.Geeze..... some of you guys..... Tell the truth now, when was the last time you stood before a "pissed off hog" with ANY gun in your hand?? When was the last time you even SAW a hog outside the grocery store?? I can only imagine your fright if a marauding squirrel happen to come along.... How many of you carry a pocket full of condoms just in case you come across a beautiful, naked girl??
R I G H T......
