I had a string of bad long-term relationships, including a marriage. I had sworn off women.
My favorite crazy uncle was a confirmed bachelor. He was the guy who taught me how to shoot. He was always great for a laugh. And when we needed money, he would pay us like $100 to wash his truck (or something like that). I had decided I was going to be the "Uncle Bo" of my generation. I would spoil my nieces and be "the cool crazy uncle". (Being a musician for a living I was halfway there anyway.)
I had bragged to my friends how I was done with women. I would just hit and run and have some fun and be done with it.
Just weeks after making this proclamation, I was playing a show. And there she was. Love at first sight? Nope. It was deeper than that. I knew I had to meet this woman. It was as if my life depended on it. The rest of her friends were bedazzled and had their "hair did". There she was in jeans and a Mountain Dew t-shirt and her hair just hanging down. I belonged to her before we ever spoke to each other.
During a set break I tried to impress her by saying something I'm sure came out stupid. I found out who she was and made it a point to be at her local hangouts. The first time I asked her out she said (and I quote) "Yer kinda easy to look at. But musicians???? Yuck."
The chase was on. It took a lot of effort to get her to agree to go out with me.
The rest is history. Now I'm about to turn 50 and we have young daughters.
Here's hoping you have a story to tell like that soon
@Millie . To heck with men. Inform God that you're done with them. Then he'll laugh at your plans and insert his own.
