I won’t be fooling around on two wheels forever, and now that it’s cold out it’s easy to think about what’s next. I’ve had a couple of fun Mustangs in recent years, but I’d like a four door for something different. And to be able to get a car seat in back. We have the grand-young ‘un most days every week so I’d like to be able to take her along.

While we’re day dreaming, we won’t focus on budget too much. But there is one, and sadly, it won’t include a Caddy CTS-V. I wish it could.

I’m thinking Chevrolet SS (2013 - 2017), rare as they are to find close by (inside 100 miles or so)
or even a Pontiac G-8 2008-2009, (same Holden Commodore as above, just older), although they are getting "longer in the tooth" than I would prefer.

Oh, and I would prefer all three pedals.

Other thoughts?

G8GTs and Chevy SS's are bad ass rides, buddy of mine has had both. The G8 didn't hesitate to run up to 140 and felt pretty darn happy there. The SS was faster but was cam'ed and tuned IIRC. G8GXP is the manual IIRC but even harder to find. Either of them with a commodore body kit look great.

6.0 Impalas caprices are inexpensive from the surplus shop if your wanting something to mod and play with. Same as an SS just a bit longer wheelbase IIRC.

But lets be unique here. You don't want a run of the mill dealer car.

Mercury Marauder, drop in a supercharged 7.3 godzilla (it'll fit) and add a 6 speed from a mustang, center consoles already there.

Coolest papa on the block!

I had a Crown Vic back in the late 80’s. Loved the car.

But I’m not looking for a project. Later model, smaller than a Vic/Marquis/Marauder.

Gas and go.

Hell cat or similar Charger I reckon would be an option but they've gained "belly button car" status IMO.

Or you could class it up a bit and grab a Panamera

Hard to find a manual V8 RWD these days.
and with four doors almost unobtanium within any reasonable budget.

My son works at a Caddy dealer and I’ve always been a fan, so I thought, easy, get a CTS-V. I remember when they came out, but I never knew they put 'vette Z-06 engines in them. 640 hp.

They are pricey as heck used. And I’ve scared myself a plenty in just 400 hp.

Class and Function.

Couple years ago I was leaving a restaurant in Fort Mill and a guy drove one past.
Nice whine coming from under the hood.
Gave him a thumbs up and he nodded and smiled.

Agreed. I am a Ford man, because dammit, my daddy and his daddy; you get the idea.

The wife's turn for a new car came up about 5 years ago and she wanted the 2019 Charger Scat-Pack Super-Bee in B5 Blue.

To this day, it is the fastest production car that I have driven and could possibly give the big-boys a run for their money with a RAZR installed. And it has all kinds of performance feedback features, Race Mode, Launch Mode... and the paddle shifters DO NOT hesitate on a spinning clutch. You kick in in gear, it goes immediately in gear with no delay in power.

And to think they announced that they were going to get rid of the gas models and go electric? WTF?

We had an old guy to die in the congregation some years ago. This is what he left his old widow to drive. Bless her heart. ;)

It doesn't check many of the boxes you've mentioned but, go test drive a Ford F-150 Lightning. You're probably not ready for an EV but, these things are a hoot to drive. Instant power that feels like the seat back is going to break when you stomp it. 4 doors, too.

The Mercury Marauder has always been a car that interested me. The new Hemi Chargers and Durangos are pretty quick when you want them to be and they can be mild the rest of the time.

When I ordered a 2023 F150 (that I didn’t buy) the sales guy who I had gotten to know pretty well, and is a “local boy” told me the F150 Lightning was the fastest truck he ever drove.

But they're cooooool daddyo
THIS is a '63.5 like I’m talking about.
Right over in W-S for sale.

But the only thing “XL” about it I think is two doors instead of four. No third pedal.

Ford torino station wagon
I had a Gran Torino as my first car. My dad gave $400 for it and it was sitting in the driveway one day when I got off the school bus. It was Carolina blue. And the first week I drove it to school, everyone told me how ugly it was, but they couldn’t catch that 351 Windsor on the way home. It’s a wonder I didn’t end up dead the way I drove that car

If you're stuck on the RWD big body Impala get the '95. It has all the best from the previous years.

My suggestion is don't. I had one. While fun, it was the biggest POS Chevy I've ever had.

I was a fan when they were new/knew/knu but I think the LTZ variant of the Caprice I was interested in could pass anything but a gas station.

Well, not a Torino but close. And it's Fieldgrade size. I've seen this at a couple of shows, it's a cool car.

.

I do like a ‘67 Galaxie with an FE. Me and baby sis around 1974.

Not true. Around town 18mpg. On trips from Houston to Austin, SA, Dallas, South Padre it it got 23mpg @70mph.

The main issues I had would be the engine and drive train. The crank mounted distributor was a fail point, the rear axle was prone to failure, front suspension sucked.

I've skimmed the thread and it may not check all the boxes and is rare....Toyota X-Runner. Basically a Tacoma with 300+ HP. I have a buddy that has one and put a super charger on it. I could probably arrange a ride in it for you at the least. Room for the car seat in the extra cab.I believe he is 6'1".

6pd manual, handles like it's on rails and mighty damn fast.

Txt me if its something you would like to look at.
