So my debit card from my bank goes out the end of August. I had not seen it yet so I called to inquire about it and they told me my current card would expire the end of the month and that they could not tell me when I would get my new one as Visa has some variation of no plastic, no ink and no chips for cards right now. I asked him how long were we looking and he said it’s been going on since June and he had a customer that has been waiting since then for a card. He said his personal savings account card went out in July and he is still waiting on it. So cash is ing but wait many slices won’t take it nor wil they take a check. So watch out folks

Get a Credit Card and get rid of any Debit Cards.
Your online purchases are not covered with Debit Cards and if someone gets into your account they can take money you will not get back.
Debit Cards are the debil.

I’d open an account with another bank. Don’t have to close this one.

And what @ronn47 said.

I only use debit cards for ATM withdrawals. Been using the same pin through three banks since 1979. No hacks. Yea, call me crazy.

This is not true. As long as it has a Visa logo, you have protection. I've never had an issue getting refunded fraudulent charges. I haven't used a credit card in years. Zero issues.

I really see no reason to use a debit card. No reason at all.
If you use a card use a visa or Mastercard! Better protection in most all cases.

You do have protection except the issue is it’s still drawn on your money. If there’s a chargeback or issue you’re waiting a long time to get access back to your money. Credit card it doesn’t matter because it’s your credit line and not your cash balance.

Why would you put your own money at risk that you have to request to get back, when you use a credit card, it’s their money that’s at stake, not yours.

My credit union makes them on the spot. I bet each branch could remake cards for 1/4 of the members with the stack each has on hand.

We’re going through a similar situation with SECU. 3 weeks and counting.

Not completely accurate. If processed as credit, yes you have protection, but as others have stated, you’re still risking your own money. If processed as debit, you do not have protection and the bank has no obligation to give you your money back.

For these reasons, you’re much safer using a credit card for everything. My debit card is strictly used for the ATM.

My credit cards on the other hand are used for everything and get compromised every 1-2yr. Thankfully, my money has never been at risk.

Yes, Regulation E and Z limit liability for unauthorized transactions. Debit card transactions can take a few days to get your funds back.
Some banks let you use your phone to get cash out of the atm.

That's something else cool about PNC their ATM's will give 1's,5's,10's and 20's.

I’m onboard with the “get a credit card” folks.

Even before your card expires, if you had lost it last month, you’d currently be SOL. If you lose a big-name credit card, they’ll have a new one in your mailbox in a day or two.
And keep a second card just as backup so when the primary card gets hacked every few years you won’t risk being out on the road traveling somewhere without one.

This is one of the reasons why I have an Apple aka Goldman Sachs card. They send you a physical card that I never use unless its an emergency and the one I use online is their virtual card with a different number and it even allows you to change your CCV2 code anytime. If you have an issue you can create a new virtual card pretty quickly.
More likely needs for second card…. Your CC company puts a hold on yours because they suspect fraud.

Happened ot me on a scooter trip. I guess they didn’t like seeing charges for $5 every 100 miles every 90 minutes! :D

Exactly this.

I have a credit card with a big enough credit line to handle monthly expenses plus emergency needs. We use it for everything and pay it off each month. Never paid a penny of interest on it, but it protects my money from being tied up in a fraud situation.

Not to mention the cash back and perks. I think I’m up to 3k in cash back rewards for this year.

There's a company called Cards On The Spot that's used to print debit cards on the spot, and they're used by a lot of banks and credit unions. I was told that they are "going away" and their existing clients are scrambling to find another vendor. Having setup one of these systems for a FI, I can tell you it's not quick or easy, and will likely take a month (probably more than a few) to make the transition.

I can’t fathom why anyone would use a debit card. Unless you are too irresponsible to pay off your balance each month, before you accrue any interest then there is zero reason to not use a credit card. I use a credit card for literally every single thing I purchase. This year alone, the reward points have bought me a FN 509 and Sig P365X and I have enough right now to get a Sig Xten ad soon as I come across one for a reasonable price.

Point is, if you use a debit card you are literally throwing away free money.
