Gun season for deer is upon us, and I would like to try to harvest a deer this weekend on the season opener, before they become skittish.

I have a lifestime sportsman's license and I received an email last year with a number of harvest IDs but didn't use it last year. I don't recall receiving anything this year. I see that you can report the harvest online.

My question is, if I harvest a deer I would like to take it in for field to freezer processing. On the site I was looking at, they discuss punching the tag on your card. What if you don't have a card. Does reporting online replace this? What sort of documentation do you need to prove you made a legal harvest?

I think you can call 1-800-I-got-one and they'll give you a number.

you need to get your harvest report card, often referred to as "tags".

If you've set up an account online at NC wildlife, you can do it there. They will mail the report card to you, and also send you an email you can print to use temporarily until your card comes in the mail.

If you don't have an account setup, it should be easy to do with your license #, name, date of birth, and few other bits of info.

Conversely, any place that sells and prints licenses in person can also print your report card, you just need to have your license for them to look you up in the system.

when you have the card and harvest a deer, you call 1-800-IGOTONE and follow the prompts. It will give you a number to write on the tag. The processor will ask you for that number.

That's it.

I'm astonished that you didn't have anything witty to say. I expect more from you 🤣

I'm shitting.

I usually turn the wit off so I can focus more on the task.

yes, but you have to have your tags (report card) because the automated phone prompts will ask you which tag # you are using for that harvest. Then it will give you a confirmation number that the processor will ask for.
Thank you. That makes sense.

In case it helps anyone else, I received clarification from the Wildlife Service that you need to request a game card each season, which you can do electronically. They mail the cards out in 7-10 days, but they also send an email you can use on a temporary basis until you get your card. The email has harvest ID numbers for antlered, antlerless deer, and wild turkeys, which you can use to report the harvest and get the confirmation number that the processor will want.

Edit - I see you already answered just this, again thank you.

Definitely get your report card, "tags", before you go hunting. If you kill a deer and move it without cutting out the date on the report card, and the man checks you, you will get a ticket.

Go here and fill this out. Print the tags and the state will mail you the real tags as well. If you use one transfer the number to the real tag when you get it.

Next time, go inside before you do that. I’m sure your coworkers didn’t want to watch you do that in the parking lot
